In my view the title of this article is incorrect.

1. The article concerns only affective disorders whilst there is clearly a concept of "affective development" which is entirely positive. (e.g. see: Cognitive and affective development in adolescence, Laurence Steinberg, Department of Psychology, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA 19122, USA)

2. Contrary to the title the article doesn't describe a spectrum or continuum of any kind. It is simply a list of affective disorders.

I suggest renaming the article: "Affective disorders" LookingGlass 08:21, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the title is most unfortunate. This article is listing purportedly common comorbidities of mood disorders. Alas, common comorbidities vary by diagnosis. Major depressive disorder, dysthymic disorder, cyclothymic disorder, Bipolar II disorder, and Bipolar I disorder all have their own common comorbidities. I've usually heard the affective, or bipolar, spectrum concept invoked to describe a continuum of severity of depressive and/or manic symptoms. Some people could have subclinical symptoms of depression, hypomania, or both; mood episodes may also be mixed with unipolar depression occupying one end and unipolar mania occupying the other.--NeantHumain (talk) 00:45, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
