The matter of the Royal Family in an international context is always somewhat clumsy. Yes, the group is often referred to as the "British Royal Family", but, as with the use of the term "Queen of England", it is incorrect and misleading to do so in some jurisdictions. As the posts of Air Commodore-in-Chief outside of the UK are not within British jurisdiction, those are such cases where it would be wrong to say members of the British Royal Family occupied the positions.
