I removed parts which were actually the advertisement of Dong Guan YiMao Filtrate Material Manufacture. I just kept the link to the company at the external link section. Those part were describing production model of filters, which is not very informative and appropriate for Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Allaei (talkcontribs) 11:01, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch, thanks for that removal. I have removed the external link, because it doesn't belong either. Per
WP:SPAM, Wikipedia is not an acceptable place to advertise. —Scheinwerfermann T·C15:11, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply

Proposed edits

The article as written currently seems very automobile-focused. It describes air filters as being one of four types, when there are almost certainly more. How about the reusable electronic-grid air filters used in home forced-air heating systems, for instance? And in the opening description, an air filter is said to be "a device which removes solid particles, such as dust, pollen, mold, and bacteria from air." This seems overly narrow -- what about activated-charcoal filters in gas masks, which exist to remove not solid contaminants but gaseous ones? The definions supplied seem to be aimed at an automobile's air intake filter. I am thinking of editing the article to make it more broad, and perhaps insert some additional information about home HVAC filters. Perhaps the existing version of the article wants to be made into a subsection on 'auto air filter' or something similar. I'm open to suggestions. -- Kadin2048 14:42, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I would definitely agree that the term air filter covers a wide spectrum of possibilities, including everything from car air filters, to carbon filters, to HEPA filters used in hospitals. This article should definitely be expanded and I hope to be able to work on it shortly. CleanAir 16:03, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oil bath aircleaners are messy and clog faster. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.70.162.162 (talkcontribs) 13 October 2006
I agree with you, and I also hope to see a new "Furnace Filters" section.--DarkBlackHat 10:38, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why does Filter (air) redirect to Air filter, while Water filter redirects to Filter (water)? --MaXiMiUS 15:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There should be more links to websites that give information on specific air filter and websites that sell air filters --HockeyInJune 03:06, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about vacuum cleaner filters? Russella (talk) 12:39, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article seems inconsistent. It defines filters as fibrous or porous, which would exclude oil bath and water bath types. DKCorman (talk) 22:00, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Categorize

It would be better to categorize air filters according to their use. I suggest that this page be renamed Air filter (automobile).

A friendly note to editors: Please do not include instructions on air filter care and replacement. Instructions like such may belong to Wikibooks. Rather, please include as an external link any instructions you would like to share to Wikipedian users. =)

Soulrefrain (Talk) 07:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC) I concur. This article is exclusively about automobile filters, and does not give each type of air filter equal treatment. ShareTheKnowledge (talk) 11:45, 19 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - The noun form for the device would be our usual naming practice. Also filtration is often carried out by cyclones, as well as filters. A standalone article at
air filtration would be possible. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:26, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply
