Meaning of Alcis
Gothic alhs PGmc *alχaz, Lith. Alkas, all mean a temple, sacred grove or similar location, from a proto-IE root meaning "protected": a place itself rather than the deities worshipped there. Is this a mistake by Tacitus? Someone else out there in the world of academia must have noticed this, but can anyone find a source which could be cited? Paul S (talk) 09:19, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
