Strictly within the context of

, however, Neményi does have a certain amount of notability, or rather notoriety, for his claim to the title of Allsherjargoði.

This has a long history on de-wiki, where Neményi was heavily into COI editing, and throwing around legal threats. This finally resulted in the deletion of his bio article, while the article on his group survives, at de:Germanische Glaubens-Gemeinschaft (Géza von Neményi). The source cited in the German article is Evangelische Zentralstelle für Weltanschauungsfragen. The gist of this account is:

• Neményi in June 2003 claimed leadership of Germanic Neopagans in Germany in general
• this led to intense online controversy and flame warring during the summer of 2003
• Neményi defines his scope as "deutsches traditionelles Heidentum", "German Traditional Paganism", which he takes to mean "unaltered practice of the faith of the Germanic peoples, including worship of Wodan/Odin and Frick/Frigg as supreme deities, celebration of the eight blots and recognition of the Edda as collection of sacred myths, belief in reincarnation[!] ... and recognition of traditionally inaugurated priests including the Allsherjargoði" -- This is basically a tautology, boiling down to "the Allsherjargoði represents those who recognize the authority of the Allsherjargoði", which amounts to practically nobody, but the point of contention is the "squatting" of the title and the defining power over what is "traditional paganism".

I think this is a reflection of a brief turmoil in the German Neopagan subculture, lasting from 2003 to 2005 or so. Today, a couple of years later, this has ceased to have any relevance even within German neopaganism, except for a handful of people who cannot let go of a failed attempt at forming a Neopagan federation on the national level in Germany. --
