Pre-Crisis Artemis

Does anyone else remember the Artemis who briefly appeared in the early eighties? I read the issue of Wonder Woman as a kid, but it's long since gone. She was a skeleton dressed in armor that was a variation of Diana's costume at the time. I just remember her challenging and besting WW, killing one of the sentry eagles and Hippolyta admitting that Artemis was once Wonder Woman.VanPelt101 23:11, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Don't know of that story. The only things that come to mind are Wonder Woman: The Once and Future Story which came out in 1998 and Wonder Woman Vol. 1, issue 298. Artemisboy 20:32, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yeah, Artemis was the name of an ancient Wonder Woman who looked like Diana. More akin to Messner-Loebs's Antiope than to Artie/Requiem. I found an online mention here.[1] Ventifax 22:09, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ra's al Ghul?

An unnamed poster entered Ra's al Ghul as an associate of Artemis. I've never once read that they even knew each other. Can someone please verify this? Artemisboy 20:22, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • She does in Trinity, but I don't know if it's considered canon or not.

    • Wasn't Artemis only 14 years old when Diana first met Superman and Batman? Artemisboy 16:56, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Artemis was actually only 14 (revealed in Trinity #3) when she guest-starred in Trinity, though she lied about her age (she said she was 18) in order to do mercenary work for Ras.

WikiProject Comics B-Class Assesment required

This article needs the B-Class checklist filled in to remain a B-Class article for the Comics WikiProject. If the checklist is not filled in by 7th August this article will be re-assessed as C-Class. The checklist should be filled out referencing the guidance given at

the Comics WikiProject. Comics-awb (talk) 15:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply

Article title

Is there any particular reason this should be "Artemis of Bana-Mighdall" rather than the simpler "Artemis (DC Comics)". It's not like there's any other DC Artemis to get confused with, is there? Ford MF (talk) 21:07, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wait, I take it back, there is. Ford MF (talk) 21:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, in the DCU there's the Amazon Artemis, the Olympian goddess Artemis, the Female Fury villain Artemiz, and the villain Artemis Crock. Artemisboy (talk) 23:54, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

Artemisboy I updated to one of J Greb's new infoboxes, it gives you a lot more options. Not sure how many of the articles you maintain still use the old ones but you can probably use this as a template, or look to see if he has updated it further. --Xero (talk) 15:01, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Much appreciated! The only corrections I made to it was replacing Brian Bolland with Mike Deodato as Mike stated himself on his Yahoo Group fan site that he based Artemis' look on that of Wildstorm's Zealot character.Artemisboy (talk) 05:36, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article Main Image

I recently changed the article's main image, which depicted two separate characters, to an alternate photo of just the article's subject alone. According to

WP:CMOS#BOXIMAGE
, the guidelines state "Pictures which have more characters and/or objects than the subject of the article should only be used if the subject is the most prominent object - editing the picture, by cropping, obscuring and/or painting out the other characters may help to ensure this". In the original photo used, both the Artemis character and the Diana character were given equal prominence. For non-comic book readers this could cause some general confusion. I tried cropping the photo as the guidelines suggest but the image really wasn't that flattering and was a bit pixilated. Because of this I followed the alternate guideline: "If a full-body shot is unavailable, the picture must show the whole of the head and torso (or the equivalent for non-humanoid characters)". I found the image I uploaded and thought it matched the requirement. The original image size is much too large though, so I will be happy to reduce the image to meet Wiki specifications.

Another reason for my changing the image is that comic book characters are constantly going through a flux of changes. One period within a character's existance can be completely different than it was only a few years later. I chose the new image I uploaded for the Artemis page because that character has not been the Wonder Woman character in over 15 years. The varied Egyptian looks/clothing artist Phil Jimenez has depicted has been in use since Artemis left the Wonder Woman title by many other artists and is the most current look to date. I was simply trying to update the article to match the current depiction of the character.

An alternate Wiki editor felt the image change should be reverted. Please provide your opinion on that matter so that there can be some consensus on the change to the main article. Artemisboy (talk) 17:42, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As for your explanation of why you made the change, I can understand where you are coming from. And I do agree, the current image falls short on point 3 of the Comics Project guideline. It also skirts points 2.3 (contorted pose) and 4 (most recognizable look). But the replacement you've uploaded - File:ArtemisHeadshot.jpg - has its own problems with points 2.1, 2.2 and 4 as well as the "Resolution" section. Trading one set of problems for another makes little sense. Finding a solo image of Artemis, showing her from head to toe, facing more or less forward, and not contorted without relying on DC Who's Who or similar shouldn't be an issue. More so for you given you're collecting the source material. The rub may come in with "the most current look to date". That can be a poor choice if a character has an established, widely identified design (hen the new "New Look" Wonder Woman not being used in the infobox there). Artemis looks to be a case where there is a single look that is more recognized than the others. Personally, if you come up with an image of the character in the Egyptian-esque design, it's at 300px across, and it meets 2.1 (preferable) or 2.2 as well as 2.3, I've got no problems with the image being changed as long as it stays stable.
- J Greb (talk) 17:49, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I guess this needs to be clearer - A head shot is not a good replacement image. Period.
If there had been no image to begin with then it's a good start , but that's it. But as a replacement, it is too many steps back from what the guideline is aiming for.
And I'll repeat: If the replacement image of the character is the Egyptian-esque design, it's at 300px across, and it meets 2.1 (preferable) or 2.2 as well as 2.3, I've got no problems with the image being changed as long as it stays stable. A mugshot does not meet those point within the guideline.
- J Greb (talk) 20:05, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for the error. I had assumed that since the policy states "If a full-body shot is unavailable, the picture must show the whole of the head and torso (or the equivalent for non-humanoid characters)". My mistake. I'll have to go through my collection to see if a fair use full figure image can be found/used.Artemisboy (talk) 20:33, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No, you read it right, you just stopped well short of the full torso. The normal delineation is that the image ends between the waist, at a stretch, and the knees. And generally with characters that are depicted in "normal" cloths. If the character is normally depicted in a costume or highly stylized "normal" cloths though, the push is is going to be for head to toe.

(as per jc37, appending the rest of the discussion from my talk page)

Hi J, before I make any changes to the page again, do you have any issues with this new image here? Artemisboy (talk) 22:18, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
From a story or a profile page in the SF? The Profiles fall under the Who's Who prohibition. - J Greb (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Noted. I'll keep looking. Artemisboy (talk) 22:28, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. I found another one. How about this one: Artemis Artemisboy (talk) 02:03, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good. Right source? - J Greb (talk) 02:04, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yup. Just scanned the image myself. Wonder Woman #177. The Artemis page seems to be Protected though. Can't make edits until it is removed. Did you make that request? Artemisboy (talk) 02:16, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Short answer: Post this to the thread on the article's talk page or point jc37 to this thread showing we hit an agreement. - J Greb (talk) 13:59, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox image issue

Comics Project
infobox image guidelines. These issue(s) are:

  • Contorted pose - The current image shows the subject of the article in a contorted pose or facing away from the viewer. The image should be a clear representation of the subject.
  • One element among many - The current image depicts the subject of the article as one element among many, either with equal weight or in a minimal role. The image should focus on the subject, either as the sole element or cropped to force that appearance.

Please keep in mind that image taken from source like DC's Who's Who or Marvel's Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe cannot be used within the article.

The issue with regard to the infobox image has been addressed.- J Greb (talk) 17:43, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Protected

I've protected the page in the hopes that it fosters talk page discussion. That said, I'd rather not see it stay protected even as long as I set the timer for, so I hope this is resolved soon. - jc37 21:48, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Issue resolved. Please see J Greb's talk page for verification. Artemisboy (talk) 14:29, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Self Suggestion in the Artemis/Kanto relationship para

"During John Byrne's time on the Wonder Woman comic, he insinuated that Artemis previously had an affair with the New God Kanto.[26] This fell out of established history as no prior connection of Artemis or the Amazons to Apokolips had been established until Darkseid's invasion of Themyscira shortly after Artemis' death. Because of this the only other time Artemis could have met Kanto would have been before the Banas invaded Paradise Island, leaving Artemis to be between infancy to fourteen years of age. Thus she would have been much too young to have had a relationship with the grown adult. Artemis also admitted in the Requiem series that she was still a virgin.[27] further removing the Kanto/Artemis romance plot."

There's too much self suggestion in this para. The references are only primary sources too. Sentences like- "This fell out of established history as no prior connection of Artemis or the Amazons to Apokolips had been established until Darkseid's invasion of Themyscira shortly after Artemis' death." is not cited at all. Plus, how does being a virgin stop you from having romance or affair with another person? Was it written as a sexual affair? Please cite.

This para can be removed, or you may add suitable references and citations. --WonderBoy1998 (talk) 17:55, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
