Comments

Arviat means "Baby Bowhead Whales", when we see something, we call them. Here, we saw more than one baby bowhead whale. Different dialects can result in very close, but not the "Real" intention. Also, "Tikiraryualaaq" and "Ittaliurvik" are also the two other names, because "Tikiraryualaaq" means "Small arriving place" and "Ittaliurvik" means a place to make tents. After the tent is done, it's called "Tupiq". The process of making a tent means "Ittaliurvik". People who originated somewhere else interpreted "Arviat" I think. Otherwise, "Tikiraryualaaq" and "Ittaliurvik" would have been mentioned, as they are the real names according to the real local people here, not "Ahiarmiut" or "Sallirmiut" But "Kivasikturmiut", people who went back and forth between "Ranger Seal Lake" and "Arviat" Year after year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aupak (talk • contribs) 22:26, 11 June 2008

Arviat, Nunavut → Arviat — These communities all use one of the official aboriginal languages of the NWT or Nunavut as a name making them unique. Support move as consistent with WP:CANSTYLE naming conventions. One did catch my eye, Lutselk'e, which I recognize as the name of a people/band as opposed to that of a settlement. However we have no article yet on the people (assuming I'm correct), so no big deal for now, and perhaps the people and the settlement are one and the same. - Comment Deline, Kakisa and Lutselk'e all have governmental groups associated with the community. However, they are in the form of "Name First Nation" so it should not really be a problem as, for example, Lutselk'e would be the Lutsel K'e Dene First Nation.   Talk:Arctic Bay, Nunavut#Requested move, while some communities may have been named for associated geographic features the primary use is the community. Waters receding

The summer location for coastal Inuit, has been relocating over a period of 5-7 decades. It is due to the fact that the shoreline is receding. Scientific studies confirm what Inuit has been saying all these decades, that the seas are receding in this area. A long, long time ago, there used to be no winters. More recently like 5 generations ago, the mean winter temperature was minus 50 to 70 degrees celsius. Nowadays, it's more like minus 30 during December. If the move section here is archived, then should the town/village pages still point here?

Or should they be updated to remove that?

Undefined ref
