2006 DVD (Optimum Releasing Box Set)

I have noticed several flaws with this DVD. The video becomes choppy at around 20 minutes in, akin to a bad case of dropped frames - I have verified that I am getting a 'clean read' from the disc. Also, the widescreen format appears to have been achieved by merely cropping a 4:3 print. This is evident in several scenes:

  • Obelix's When You're Eating Well song - when Cleopatra sings her part with Obelix sitting on the throne, his head is out of frame.
  • Magic potion demonstration - the last block of stone appears on the makeshift pyramid with a resounding 'ping'; we do not see this.
  • Obelix views Santa Claus carving on pyramid wall - the image is cropped.

I have contacted Optimum Releasing about this, but have received no response. I am tempted to merge the above into the main article - I gave them a chance to explain and they chose to ignore me.

Maybe I'm the only one that is really bothered about it but it was my favourite film as a kid. I was given the set for my birthday and was disappointed with the lash up they made of it; if that makes me really anal then I guess it's a fair cop. --Danny Darko 19:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
