Hello there! I saw a post about this page on Wikipedia:WikiProject Microbiology and came over to have a look! I edited it somewhat heavily, so I'm leaving some notes here with the hope that others can make sense of what I've done and easily undo the things they disagree with:

1. Reworked the lead, hoping to make it more clear what autodisplay means. The old way seemed unnecessarily complicated.

2. Moved the nitty-gritty stuff into a "Mechanism" section which I tried to push into semi-clear English.

3. Made a short history section with the stuff from Jose2007, because it seemed like interesting stuff! That said, now the history section relies entirely on citations to that reference. So there's that...

4. Some notes on references:

.) The book appears to be a list of short reports of recent research in the field noted in the title. One of these reports appears to mention autodisplay, but it's nothing particularly notable, just a group using it to express a functional enzyme. Exciting perhaps if you're into that kind of thing, but it doesn't support any of the statements in the article (I think).

Similar story with (Immunoproteins: Advances in Research and Application: 2011 Edition: ScholarlyBrief. ScholarlyEditions. 9 January 2012. pp. 100–.

.). It appears to just mention an experiment where someone uses an autodisplay setup. Probably not super notable?

It used to be used to backup the statement that "Autodisplay is a biotechnotolical platform, first introduced in the 1990s, for the display of proteins or peptides on the surface of gram-negative bacteria." In my opinion, Karp2014 is a fine source for that statement, but I left the source in there with the hope that it may be useful to someone.

.) is someone's PhD thesis dissertation from the University of Maryland. It has a short description of autodisplay in an introduction of one of the chapters, and he does use an autodisplay system in some experiments, but the reference is probably not necessary to make any of our points.
