"The province was once a province of southern Cambodia until 1949"

Are you sure the province was once a province of southern Cambodia until 1949? It doesn't look so according to this map.--Doron 06:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hán Tự

What are the Hán Tự, if any, for this province name? Is it ? Badagnani 01:40, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Nom Foundation gives (the second character apparently little used), while the Chinese Wikipedia gives . Badagnani (talk) 06:07, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If is the correct spelling formerly used in Vietnam, is it Han tu or Chu nom? The second character doesn't seem to be widely used in Chinese. Badagnani (talk) 09:26, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What is the evidence it means "bamboo landing" or "bamboo port? Badagnani (talk) 09:16, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have serious doubts about the correctness of these characters. I want to see some real usage before they are added to the article. If they're not in any documents, adding them to the article seems to be useless. DHN (talk) 19:31, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

was just sent to me by a specialist Han tu/Chu nom researcher in Vietnam. I don't know what his sources were, but probably from old atlases or books. However, the generally accepted meaning of the name of this toponym seems to match with these characters rather than the ones used by Chinese Wikipedia. The edit summary for the blanked characters said "Chinese" but, in fact, these are Vietnamese characters (the way it is not proper to call kanji "Chinese characters." Such blanking is unhelpful to our users who are interested in the etymology of place names (which we provide for all other nations in the world). You should ask him for the sources or he might have misinterpreted your query as "How would so-and-so be rendered in Chu Nom?" instead of "How was so-and-so written in Chu Nom?" DHN (talk) 19:38, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are right. I will do so. Badagnani (talk) 19:40, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Islands

Quy (Tortoise Island) and Phụng (Phoenix Island)--both in

Ben Tre Province should be mentioned. Badagnani 03:21, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply
