World War II Dredging in Newport Bay; added to islands' size(?)

I used to sail in and out of NB, and told 'many sailing guests' that a lot of the in-bay islands' mass existing in the harbor was the result of dredging back in the early 40's, in anticipation of the USN using Newport as a small port for submarines. I can find NO references to such dredging. (Only the work done by early developers much earlier than 1940.) Anyone else hear the same WW II references? On line links? Thanks.

My dad is from NB and he says the same thing regarding dredging and the islands. I don't know where you'd find info about that other than word of mouth. --Allie (talk) 07:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
