World War II Dredging in Newport Bay; added to islands' size(?)
I used to sail in and out of NB, and told 'many sailing guests' that a lot of the in-bay islands' mass existing in the harbor was the result of dredging back in the early 40's, in anticipation of the USN using Newport as a small port for submarines. I can find NO references to such dredging. (Only the work done by early developers much earlier than 1940.) Anyone else hear the same WW II references? On line links? Thanks.
- My dad is from NB and he says the same thing regarding dredging and the islands. I don't know where you'd find info about that other than word of mouth. --Allie (talk) 07:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
