Let's try a compromise. If genocide is too loaded a word, massacre works as well, since it directs to the same article. If Bitlis was not part of Armenia politically but contained a population of ethnic Armenians, we can say that instead. And for now I don't think we need a specific source that Bitlis had a significant Armenian ethnic population since Bitlis is noted in the article
