X-53 designation

The Active Aeroelastic Wing was planned to be designated X-52, but that designation was skipped to avoid confusion with the Boeing B-52, and the AAW was designated X-53 instead. [1] The designation X-52 may be assigned to a new experimental aircraft in the future.

Need to expand the lead paragraph

The lead should stand on it's own as a concise summary. The lead here doesn't actually tell the reader what the active aerolastic wing is. I don't have the background to write it unfortunately, but perhaps something like "Active aerolastic wings are designed to deform, or twist, under load in a way that improves performance rather than degrading it as normal wings do" Chalky (talk) 10:36, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
