I would like to see some discussion of the "proverbial dullness" of the Boeotians, on a separate page. The Boeotians and the Philistines have each made a lasting contribution to modern languages - in the latter case via the German romantics, and in the former case obviously with much deeper roots, but I have not managed to trace them by rummaging through the web. I know a relevant (and in itself important) quotation of Gauss in more or less modern times, and I have come across a reference by Horace, but I would like to see something from the Greek literature. Horace refers to the dense air of Boeotia, and I wonder if this corresponds to a stock phrase from Greek literature.

Why Thebes?

Why the reference to Thebes in the third paragraph? What does it have to do with Boeotia? Cottingham 18:12, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I read further. Should the third paragraph be removed and/or consolidated with the sixth? Cottingham 18:15, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

Can someone tell me where the spelling Beotia comes from? I have seen the spellings Boiotia and Voiotia (though the latter is usually used with reference to the modern region) but never Beotia. Shim jb 11:28, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One would be good. Njál 15:51, 11 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would indeed! Carl Turner 10:34, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As of today, still would be good. :-) -- Writtenonsand 12:02, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

league cities

Shouldn't the 12 cities of the Boeotian League be listed somewhere here?

Please slow down and copyedit

A bunch of material has just been added, but typos are frequent and no spaces are given after punctuation (see

Certain parts of the recently added information, such as the section about Dionysius and
Amphictyony, seem overly specialised for an overview article such as this one, which I think should just be kept for information pertaining to Boeotia as a whole. Dionysodorus (talk

Legends

This article is rather incoherent and rambly, and I plan to rephrase it somewhat. In particular, the Legends section is highly unbalanced and unselective, and totally fails to provide the kind of general summary of mythology relating to Boeotia that it might be expected to - e.g. it doesn't even mention the myths of the Theban cycle. It does, however, provide detail on large areas of mythology that are of very little direct importance to Boeotia qua region. I therefore intend to edit this section, turn it into a helpful summary, and remove extraneous material elsewhere. Any suggestions/objections? Dionysodorus (talk) 11:55, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have dealt with the Legends section, moving material to Zagreus, Persephone, Niobe, Graea. Other material is already present in the articles where it might be moved to. I have deleted the occasional bit of material that is either unsourced and dubious, or where it is not clear to me (as a person with a classics degree) what it was supposed to mean. Also some "Legends" material went to
Amphictyonic League. Dionysodorus (talk) 16:19, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply

Albanian Element

How come there is not a single word regarding Albanian origin of the people who live in this region? Beotia since 13th century the population of this region was entirely of Albanian origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.55.81.58 (talk) 19:02, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
