Opening sentence incorrect

The opening sentence contains a very muddled "definition". Commando is the name of the basic fighting unit of the Boer forces and not a description/designation of the individual member of the unit. Unlike the commonly understood modern usage one could never refer to an individaul member of a Boer commando as "a commando". Furthermore this article does not belong in the category "South African Special Forces". Roger 18:24, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Weaponry

I'm not at all sure about the accuracy of the opening statement of the section. What I remember from quite a bit of reading is that the boers individuaslly owned their rifles. The ZAR and Free State governments imported lage quantities but they were not held in arsenals to be issued to soldiers. The government sold them to citizens who used them not only for military purposes but also for hunting. The reason for the bulk purchases by the governments was for the sake of standardising the ammunition, which in wartime was issued by the government. At other times each man was responsible for his own ammunition and maintaining his rifle. Roger (talk) 07:14, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Conscription contradiction

The article both states that the commandos were made up of conscripts and that they were made up of volunteers. Which claim is correct? If different laws applied at different times this really needs to be clarified. Nicholas90 (talk) 17:05, 5 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
