California? Wave Machine?

Where in the film does it ever suggest it takes place in California? It never says where it's taking place. Just because it was filmed there (Oakland), doesn't mean that's where story takes place. In the director's commentary on the DVD, the director says it's an unidentified location, but probably New York.

Also in the director's commentary, he specifically mentions that they didn't have modern wave machines for the scene in the pool. He says there are guys in the pool with large wooden paddles making the waves.Lafong (talk) 06:00, 30 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The film was shot at Dunsmuir House, which just happens to be in Oakland, California. The film narrative itself (I just watched it) makes no reference to this location, however, Dunsmuir House, Oakland, California, is the location where the film was made. The lead paragraph in this WP article makes no such claim for the film narrative. The text does not specifically state that California is where the story takes place. The lead para only states, ". . .the movie moves the action to California. . ."
Mmkay? There isn't a problem with the article text. The problem is with you, you're hung up on comparing the film narrative with the WP article text and not finding a verbatim analog in the film 101.160.16.152 (talk) 13:28, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, and the absence of a wave machine for the pool scene---if that production detail is so important to you, you could make it into something practical by putting it in the Production section of the article. I'm not going to do it because I don't care. The onus is on you to do it because it's your baby. So, feed your baby instead of posting on the talk page. Show, don't tell.101.160.16.152 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 13:33, 15 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In-depth info

I found a couple of sources we could use, and there is a lot more in the director's commentary in the film thats not being used here.
