Talk:Capture of HMS Epervier

MOS:JOBTITLES, "Offices, titles, and positions ... are common nouns and therefore should be in lower case when used generically". They are capitalized only "When followed by a person's name to form a title, i.e., when they can be considered to have become part of the name" or "When a title is used to refer to a specific and obvious person as a substitute for their name". The usage in this article is neither. This is similar to "He is best known as the captain of the RMS Titanic" in Edward Smith's article. Whether people end up in a position through birth, appointment, election, conscription or otherwise, the position gets lower case unless it is a part of a person's name or takes the place of their name. The article does not even mention the lieutenant's name, so it is clearly just a position. Please restore my edits to this article and to Capture of HMS Cyane and HMS Levant. I also made corrections to the punctuation, and it would be good not to throw the baby out with the bath water. You could have changed just the capitalization without removing the commas I added.
