Wow, the fact this page is so new and under-edited shows just what matters on Wikipedia... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.199.113.40 (talk) 16:38, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The information on this page has become outdated. In order to rectify this issue, I’d like to share some information that may help someone looking to edit this page. First, the Chicago Board Options Exchange, also formerly referred to as CBOE, now goes by the name of Cboe Options Exchange, also referred to as Cboe Options. The name change came as part of the exchange’s holding company’s rebrand to Cboe Global Markets. More information on that name change can be found here. In addition, the Cboe Options Exchange will be moving from its current location at 400 S. LaSalle Street to 141 W Jackson Boulevard in 2022. At the end of 2020, Cboe Options Exchange had annual trading volume of about 1.3 billion contracts, including 893 million equity options contracts and 457 million index options contracts, making up 18% of total options market share. The rest of the historical information appears to be accurate. Lkennedy21 (talk) 21:27, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi@Z1720: Thanks for the help! I do have a conflict of interest, so I'll request an edit below with specific instructions.

Change name of page and all uses of Chicago Board Options Exchange to Cboe Options Exchange

Change "annual trading volume that hovered around 1.27 billion contracts at the end of 2014.[1] CBOE offers options on over 2,200 companies, 22 stock indices, and 140 exchange-traded funds (ETFs)." to "annual trading volume that hovered around 1.3 billion contracts at the end of 2020, including 893 million equity options contracts and 457 million index options contracts, making up 18% of total options market share."

Add "Cboe Options Exchange will be moving from its current location at 400 S. LaSalle Street to 141 W Jackson Boulevard in 2022."

I want to reiterate that I have a conflict of interest and am unable to make these edits myself. Thanks!

Request for article merge

Right now there are separate Wikipedia articles for Chicago Board Options Exchange and Cboe Global Markets. I think this is leading to some confusion, as these two articles are referring to the same entity. The Chicago Board Options Exchange became CBOE Holdings at the time of its IPO in 2010. In 2017, CBOE Holdings rebranded as Cboe Global Markets. At that point the Chicago Board Options Exchange / CBOE stopped existing. There is no separate CBOE exchange or legal entity, and there are no accurate contemporary media mentions of "Chicago Board Options Exchange" because, again, that entity doesn't exist anymore. The CBOE logo in this article's infobox is likewise defunct and the url posted below takes you to the Cboe Global Markets website.

I have attempted to summarize this chronology in a proposed Cboe Global Markets History section update that I've posted on that article's Talk page. That draft also includes some of the historical details covered in this article's introduction. It would be great if any editors monitoring this page could take a look at that request, as I posted it several weeks ago and haven't received any responses. (I also plan on posting another request there soon about revising the article introduction, which misleadingly states that Cboe Global Markets "owns" the Chicago Board Options Exchange. I'm just waiting until the History section is updated to do so, because my understanding is that the introduction should reflect the body of the article.)

In the meantime, I'm hoping that this article can be merged with Cboe Global Markets. I see that in a previous request about this, WP:COMMONNAME was cited in opposition. I will certainly defer to all of you as the Wikipedia experts, but in my reading this guideline wouldn't apply here as we're not talking about renaming an article from X to Y. In this case, we want to merge existing X and Y articles that cover the exact same subject.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Spencer at Cboe (talk) 21:40, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
