What is the point of writing "famous for its roofing slates" without saying why? Following that with "popular with houses all across England" will cause many readers to wonder why, if roofing slates are popular across England, Collyweston's get special mention. Inane.

Possible explanation of metaphor

I did some searching, a few years ago, on the origin of the term 'colleyweston' as a metaphor. I had a recollection of an explanation but couldn't find the original source.
