Bills

In what sense is the word "bill" used here? Is a

private bill? (Please pardon my ignorance of UK government.) — Ringbang
20:20, 12 August 2005 (UTC) No. Consolidation bills are public bills, generally promoted by the Government, often following the work of the
Law Commissions. There are variations in procedure depending on whther it is "pure" consolidation (just bringing existing text together into a single document) or includes some amendment of the law to facilitate consolidation. They are sometimes preceded by a more substantive public bill which makes the changes to the law which allows the consolidation to proceed. For example the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 consolidated the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1975 which had been amended many times, and was preceded by the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1995.--George Burgess 14:11, 5 November 2005 (UTC)[reply

Proposed merger

One, not necessarily insurmountable, obstacle to this merger is the fact that a consolidation Act is not a consolidation Bill, because an Act is not a Bill. James500 (talk) 16:21, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merge: a
Consolidation Acts as it is the act that is final product, whereas the bill is more transient/ephemeral. Having said that, it doesn't much matter which is chosen. Klbrain (talk) 15:01, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply
