History of Meath

anyone interested in doing something on the history of the county. Its steeped in it...Newgrange, Nowth and Dowth, the Boyne itself from Fionn Mac Cumhail to the Battle between King James and King William of Orange. The High King sat there as mentioned as well as St Patrick having spent a while there (battling druids and such ;)). Paidí O Donaghue in 1798, Thomas Ashe in 1916 (one of the few risings outside Dublin and the only succesful one) in Ashbourne. Kells, Trim, etc. etc I could go on....perhaps they are covered under individual articles but it would be nice to have a brief summary and then link to the various things...(its done in the intro but not really....) --83.61.164.102 16:27, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What's with the "de facto" re. Navan, it *is* the county town. 194.165.181.169 00:00, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wotno flag?

Is there a reason the county flag isn't included on the page? [1] 158.234.10.144 (talk) 15:09, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There sure is. There is no flag for the county. The only flag that is used is the Meath GAA flag which is not representative of the political entity that is Meath. --MacTire02 (talk) 20:10, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Very good idea to keep track of progress on towns and villages - we should have one for every county! Sarah777 (talk) 13:12, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agher is a very small village, if even one.
Ballinlough is 7 miles north west of Kells and 6 miles from Oldcastle. It has a shop, pub, club and petrol station.

Clean up

This article needs to be cleaned up seriously. I don't even no where to start, and perhaps it may be a sysop's job to rollback certain additions made by some users. For a start, Ms. O'Connor, I would assume, is a teacher in some school and it appears some kids are using her words to edit this article. Great that we have young editors but we need accurate information here. Secondly, the article insinuates that Meath was in Brega - incorrect. Part of modern Meath was for a time in Brega, but then part was also in Leinster, Breifne, etc., depending on what period of history you are looking at, but certainly to indicate it was never in Meath is just innacurate. The capital of the kingdom of Mide was in Tara - the very centre of the county for Pete's sake. So if Meath was not in Mide, how was Tara capital of Mide? Did it teleport or something??? The history and geography sections also need expanding, as currently the history section contains barely a few sentences (one including historical inaccuracies) and the geography section consisting of simple lists. --MacTire02 (talk) 19:10, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Also, under the Government section, Ray Butler (Fine Gael) links to the retired American Football player. Is that correct (and need to be added to) or not? Virillustre (talk) 18:54, 18 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

B class and updating

Much of this article is not up to date in terms of population and various other issues. Is that not a requirement for a B-class article? Sarah777 (talk) 14:56, 7 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
