In my opinion, cristobalite is not a "Quartz variety", since quartz refers to a particular crystalline form of silica. The connectivity of tetrahedra in the quartz framework is rather different from that in quartz. It would be better to label it as a "Silica variety", which refers only to chemistry and not structure. This should probably be changed in the original listing "Quartz variety". At the moment I have not changed anything--Octopodes 04:57, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

From the kinetic analysis, the time exponent, n, decreases with increasing cristobalite seed additions, suggesting that the transformation kinetics is controlled by a long-range diffusion mechanism from a two-dimensional plate-like growth to a one dimensional needle-like growth. The activation energy calculation shows that the nucleation and growth process of cristobalite crystals is not similar to the incubation process of cristobalite nucleation in the solid-state reaction of fused silica-cristobalite.”
