"decoded" -> "encoded"?

The article says: "One path goes to the core encoder for backwards compatibility and is then decoded. The other path compares the original audio to the decoded core signal and generates residuals (…)"

I assume the proper word should be "encoded"? It's the encoding-process which is described after all.

  • No, I believe it is correct. In the process it's describing, the encoder has to decode the core stream it has just created, to compare it to the original input source file. The difference between the two files is what is filled in afterwards, to create the full lossless track. I hope that makes sense. --Sujayt 18:33, 9 September 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sujayt (talkcontribs)

AV transport - Are HDMI 1.1 & 1.3 backwards?

I'm an engineer, but I'm a BSEE, not an audio engineer. That confession made, I must ask: How can the descriptions of HDMI 1.1 and HDMI 1.3 be correct? I'm pretty sure HDMI 1.3 has wider bandwidth than HDMI 1.1, however, HDMI 1.1 is credited with conveying the wider bandwidth stream. That is, since 8 channels of LPCM (after decoding) requires more bandwidth than does DTS-HD MA (before decoding), I would expect that HDMI 1.1 would be capable of conveying only the lower bandwidth stream, while HDMI 1.3 could convey either stream. The "AV transport" section has them reversed. If I was more sure of myself, I'd make the change myself, however, there may be other issues that turn what seems to me would be common sense, upside-down. --MarkFilipak (talk) 04:38, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ref Improve

I've tagged the article for needing more citations from

reliable sources after correcting several citations (adding missing elements), checking validity (one had nothing to corroborate the article text), adding citations. Primarily, the technical specifications aren't available on the DTS.com
site, and their online "Box" or PDF library isn't any help; we have to rely on third party sites that offer the specs.

We need links to more authoritative primary sources, less blogs, IMHO. -- David Spalding (  ) 02:08, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
