Buddhism and Dashain

I can't find any references for Dashain being the celebration of Ashoka's adoption of Buddhism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.34.47.84 (talk) 09:38, 11 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

Dasain should be merged, but I am not sure which is the better article name. ::Supergolden:: 16:03, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply

Dasain, I think - it's more accurate (The Nepali being 'Dasai~'(the tilde representing nasalisation), and, going on a google search, more common. BovineBeast 08:05, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
(September 25, 2009) I would disagree with this. The Nepali is दशैं. श is pronounced 'sha', while स is what is prounounced 'sa'. (see http://www.omniglot.com/writing/nepali.htm for example). Therefore, the transliteration should be Dashain, and not Dasain. Can this be addressed, and the
Dasain stub be redirected to Dashain
? Additionally, please note that all mentions of the word WITHIN the article are Dashain, not Dasain.

I think i use Dashai for most of my work but Dasai is also used frequently.

Does any one have any fact about this? From where did the author cited this sentence? Christianity having influence over Dashin?? "In general, the tradition of sacrifice is lessening with the easy availability of meat for daily consumption, and with the influences of Vaishnav Hindus (who are vegetarian) and Evangelical Christianity." Aaniyo 02:52, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the merge template,
Dasain, also Dashain is a copyvio, so I tagged it for deletion. Jackaranga 12:34, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply

stop slaughtering of animals

this act is inhuman . sacrificing animals. you are thinking that i am killing just one ,but there are so many like you who are killing many . imagine humans being slaughtered like this. only humans have feelings , not animals? we can speak but who will speak for one's who can't? wake up people . have you ever wondered why are we THE most intelligent? because God wanted us to. He had faith in us that we will take care of this world and others creatures but look what have we done and what are we doing. A man who is very rich and day and night he prays , he decorates lords idol with nothing but gold. one day an old needy man comes to his place for shelter and he kicks him out . do you think lord will be happy about this act? of course no. GOD doesn't want gold and food or BLOOD. HE JUST WANTS US TO BE HAPPY BY MAKING OTHERS HAPPY NO MATTER IT STARTS WITH ONE ANT. BUT WE ARE DOING THE OPPOSITE. so lets join our hand TOGETHER AND STOP HIS CRUELTY CAUSE THEY DESERVE BETTER. I don't realize why people goats in Dashain. And people respect the animals mainly only in festivals but my suggestion is that every animal should be respected equally on any place, time and situation. Dynamic Azent (Dynamic azent (talk))

Neutrality

I don't see any problem with the neutrality of the article. Many Nepalis sacrifice animals during Dashain. It is a fact. You cannot label the article to be non-neutral because of a fact that you don't like. This is an encyclopedia and should contain facts. However bitter it might be, a fact is a fact. Please put enough arguments to justify the need to nominate the article for check of neutrality. I am removing the nomination for now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.54.196.124 (talk) 00:12, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adigoonin order

What is the Adigoonin order? It is mentioned casually as though there were an expectation that people would know what it is, however, when I Googled it, ALL the references to that phrase are copied from this Wikipedia article. I am not a scholar of Hinduism or Nepal, so I really have no idea what this sentence is talking about. Could someone clarify it, correct it, or link to a Wikipedia article explaining it?Exaybachay (talk) 17:10, 18 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Any additional comments:
  • The full Devanagari spelling is दशैं :: the copier left the anusvara off at the end, and the word transcribes to "daśaiṃ", which in modern Indian languages could be treated as meaning "Dashain". Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:29, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

It is not Vijaya Dashami (Indian way of spelling), rather it is Bijaya Dashami in Nepali way of spelling.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.207.2.88 (talk)

Both Vijaya and Bijaya are written as विजया दशमी in Devanagari so both are used. — Ascii002Talk Contribs GuestBook 05:48, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

{{Ping|I dream of horses}}

I meant about that Devnagari translation of the term 'Bijaya'. I would have done that but my fluency in Devnagari-typing is well.. quite .... So I tried inserting characters from the 'Micron' button in the Edit Section, but that seemed to break the syntax of the sentence. So I would request someone who could possibly.. FindMeLost (talk) 05:24, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doubtful the Ping worked. I'll educate myself.Thanks FindMeLost (talk) 05:26, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ASCII

Thts pretty much correct. But the term you mentioned in Devnagari isnt given in the article. Mind changing that? Article ma 'ya' 'ra' 'la' 'wa' hudai aauni 'wa' narakhera bijaya dashami rakhexa.. sbdy change that to wijaya dashami (<< sounds awkward but true) FindMeLost (talk) 03:58, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Dashain

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Dashain's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Fuller2004p108":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 23:37, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Animal cruelty.

Why is the cruelty to animals--the only thing non Hindu's know of this festival--buried deep in the article rather than in the lede when it is internationally it's ONLY point of notability? 2001:8003:3631:7400:9C6E:97CA:6A6:3651 (talk) 00:43, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
