Conceived by...

An IP editor has added text a few times saying something like The 'Player Referral' concept was conceived by lawyer Senaka Weeraratna from Sri Lanka and backs it up by adding various sources including a copy of a letter to a newspaper. I've reverted in a

WP:BRD
manner

A few questions about this to get a discussion going:

  1. How can we tell that this is the first time it was suggested? I can't remember when the 3rd umpire was first in place for run-outs for example and it is not outlandish to think that someone else had the same idea before him.
  2. is there any coverage independent of this person that actual shows that it was his suggestion that let to DRS being adopted? There is an approx 10 year gap between his first letter and DRS first being used.
  3. If we do mention him, what is an appropriate NPOV way of doing so?

WP:COMMONNAME, nobody refers to it as UDRS anymore. It's also the name used by the ICC. Joseph2302 (talk) 10:16, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply
