Deleterious genes are most certainly not the same thing as deleted genes. Gene deletion refers to the removal of genetic information from a chromosome, while a deleterious gene is simply a gene that has harmful effects on the organism possessing it. There is currently no article about deleterious genes (although perhaps there should be). I am rather new to Wikipedia and do not know the proper procedure for fixing this disambiguation. Can anyone help a bit? Thanks. Columbiabotany (talk) 01:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the incorrect link and plan to eventually start a new article for deleterious genes. If you beat me to it, great. Columbiabotany (talk) 16:03, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A totally wrong redirection of deleterious to major trauma

Deleterious should not redirect to major trauma as this is a big mistake. Deleterious in Greek means literally poisoning. The word in medical articles means a substance or situation is that is injurious to health, i.e, harmful. See e.g. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/deleterious and also the article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25422084 where glutamate has deleterious (i.e., harmful) effects on the hippocampus of the brain. I strongly recommend to change the redirection to major trauma as this is wrong. Why do you think that you need to make a redirection here? You should just write the meaning of the word as I mentioned above (although in similar cases that I tried to do this I was notified that wiki is not a dictinary!). 688dim (talk) 22:47, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Be
WP:BOLD and fix it. To avoid the article looking like a dictionary definition, use paragraphs and cite references to literature. Note that the dictionary term is here: wikt:deleterious. +mt 20:25, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply

Can an administrator help here?

I made the change, but someone did not respect my efforts and removed it once again! That person does not understand that the word deleterious should not redirect to major trauma (but to just explain its meaning that is harmful), despite the reference I provided. Its time consuming in wiki to prove something obvious.I am done. An administrator should help here. 688dim (talk) 21:22, 31 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No administrator is needed, I've made it a soft redirect to the Wiktionary page defining the word. Peter James (talk) 10:11, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
