Question

The referenced article from source 1 says dialkyl phospho metabolites were detected in urine. Dichlorvos has no P-C bonds, the phosphorous is in a phosphorous group ether linked to a carbon. What this insecticide specifically listen in the journal has having metabolites detected in the study?70.119.233.170 (talk) 18:08, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The study looked at organophosphate pesticides in general, and measured exposure by looking for six metabolites, some of which are metabolites of dichlorvos (all of them phosphates, so no C-P bonds). Effects of dichlorvos exposure on neural development of children

I recently removed mention of a study on organophosphates as a possible cause of ADHD, that was seemingly contradicted by a later study (2013) with a common author. This removal was undone, and as suggested by the reverting editor, I'm bringing it to the talk page.

My removal of the source was (in hindsight) a bit rash, as the 2013 paper is more nuanced than I initially gathered from its abstract, and it does not contest the assertion that there is 'compelling evidence' for adverse effects of organophosphate pesticides on children's development (though without specifically mentioning ADHD as part of that statement). Still the article would greatly benefit from a better overview of the literature, preferably systematic reviews, that also covers more aspects than just ADHD (because that's hardly the only potential adverse effect from organophosphate exposure) and if possible specifically mention dichlorvos.

But to be clear: I'm not going to remove anything unless I have something better to replace it with.

Four reviews that I could find, and that may be useful:

It may be that much of this more properly belongs on the page on organophosphates, or even on a new article on organophosphate insecticides: given that there are over 50 pages in that category (Category:Organophosphate insecticides) a dedicated article would not seem overdone. The present article (and articles like it) could then briefly state the concerns over organophosphate pesticides in general, and refer elsewhere for more in-depth coverage and specific studies (unless of course they pertain to dichlorvos in particular).

Why called DDVP?

If it's 2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate, (2,2-DichloroVinyl Dimethyl Phosphate) shouldn't it be DVDP?
