Reason for the "Digital Media Player" article name
Renaming to official DLNA device class name "Digital Media Player" which defines network connected media players primary designed to be connected to a television.[1][2] Gamester17 (talk) 18:47, 7 November 2013 (UTC)
- "Receiver" is short for Digital media receiver article name, and I find no reference for a common acceptance in general for media players for TV devicses being called for "Digital Media Receiver" or even "Media Receiver". Gamester17 (talk) 18:47, 7 November 2013 (UTC)]
- Other name suggestions was; Net Connected Media Player (which are unacceptable because they use "HD" and "Net" which are abbreviation), also "Network Connected Media Player", "Digital Media Player", "Digital Media Streamer", and "Digital Media Hub", but those are less commonly used and find much less reference for them in use today. SoC, CPU, GPU, VPU are not the same so should be separated
Please note and understand that SoC (System on Chip), CPU (Central Processing Unit), GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), and VPU (Video Decoding Unit) are not the same in a digital media player so should be separated in all references. Gamester17 (talk) 20:21, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Where do these fit in?
The Sony HAP-S1 and HAP-Z1ES have all of these features except video - they are audio only. They can play any common type of digital audio file. They have a built-in HD and can also use an external hard drive. They can also stream from some services and Internet radio. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 02:01, 30 March 2024 (UTC)
- I think they can be covered here. This article doesn't need to be insistent that devices support video. A related question is what's the difference between a smart speaker and an audio media player and what about smart speakers that also have a screen. ~Kvng (talk) 14:02, 1 April 2024 (UTC)
