sunburn

jeez i thought i was picking an uncontroversial non-political example, but it's just impossible. no, i couldn't find any reliable sources willing to state that if you go out into the sun for *one second* each day for a year, you won't get a sunburn. the dermatologists and policymakers are terrified of getting sued if someone misunderstands and thinks that being in the sun for any time at all is "safe". it's even an EPA recommendation to never give minimum time to burn:

people can interpret burn times as a safe period during which they do not have to take protective action. Relating UV Index values to “time to burn” or “safe tanning time” sends an incorrect and potentially harmful message to the general public.[1]

at what point do we just shrug and call on common knowledge?
