I believe that most of the school board candidates who were defeated on November 8 did not participate in the original 2004 vote by the school board that resulted in the intelligent design statement being included in biology classes. I also read that some of the candidates who ran as part of the coalition that is against intelligent design in science classes are actually Republicans. I believe the position of the coalition is that they do not mind if intelligent design is included in non-science classes such as religion and philosophy. --JWSchmidt 18:53, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They may be Republicans generally but in this election they ran as Democrats. Pennylvania election law allows school board candidates to cross-file on both Republican and Democratic tickets. In the May 2005 primary, the eight incumbents won all of the Republican slots for the November general election. The eight Dover CARES candidates--four Republicans and four Democrats--won all the Democratic slots. The CARES candidates swept all eight open positions. However, one of the losing incumbents--James Cashman--has challenged the results of the election because one voting machine in one precinct appeared to malfunction, giving him only "1/2" vote on that machine. A local judge has ruled that the registered voters in that precinct who voted in the general election will be able to vote again on January 3, 2006, in a runoff election between Cashman and the Dover CARES candidate with the lowest vote total, Bryan Rehm. -- RNMyers 4:36 p.m., 8 December 2005 and 6:50 p.m. 12 December 2005.
