Just curious why there isn't already some mention of the town's very odd pronunciation?

The happy citizens of DuBois do not pronounce their hometown "wrong", but I think there should be at least some mention of this particular western Pennsylvanian idiosyncrasy? A town named Paris that pronounced it "Pie" should at least mention its bizarre pronunciation and why. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.206.243.78 (talk) 22:33, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Pittsley

Although a pro baseball player from a small town might be notable to the town, I am not sure that makes him Notable and worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia. There is no Wikipedia article devoted to him, for example. I don't have strong thoughts either way, so I throw this out to the Wikipedia community to comment on whether Jim Pittsley should be listed in this article as one of DuBois' Famous people. pronunciation

We list two contradictory pronunciations: DOO-boys and doo-BOYS. Which is correct? kwami (talk) 23:35, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

doo-BOYS is correct

According to whom? I've heard it DOO-boys. Powers T 18:04, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I grew up there and it's definately DOO-boys. The other pronunciation should be removed. Kk1984 (talk) 00:20, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was born and raised in DuBois. No one ever pronounced it "doo-BOYZ"... The preferred (official?) pronounciation is "DOO-boyce" with a sibilant "S", not a soft "s" or "Z" (unless the speaker was putting on airs...)

I have no clue. I live in Erie and it's not very clear ~ AC5230 talk 00:00, 23 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Coldest temperature is the continental U.S.

I remember seeing DuBois as recording the coldest temperature in the continental U.S. many times on the local Pittsburgh news. If this was true it might make an interesting footnote in the wikipedia listing for DuBois. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.66.128.194 (talk) 20:14, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Transportation Industry

Entirely missing in this article is any mention of the Railroad Industry, which is why DuBois is still in existence. In the early 20th century, after the lumber was gone, and before the coal mines became productive, the Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh RR built a significant presence consisting of passenger and freight terminals, switching yards, car repair shops and the DuBois Locomotive Works which could make all repairs on any of the various locomotives in use, including the ability to build a new locomotive from the ground up. Well over 2,000 employees of the BR&P (and after mergers, the B&O) spent their working lives in DuBois building the railroad industry and the community in which they lived. --- Joe Shupienis, W3BC 06:22, 12 October 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joe Shupienis (talkcontribs)
