Yes, it is. It's necessarily pronounced that way to make some of the lines scan, such as the very first mention of his name: "Thanks, good Egeus. What's the news with thee?" [1.1.21]. Shakespeare often uses similarly Anglicised pronunciations of his characters' names; see also Andronicus, Ulysses (stress in wrong place), Iago, Jacques (wrong number of syllables).... 91.105.26.143 (talk) 22:09, 11 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
