“Longest gap in career” trivia

Even though there already appears to be a general consensus on this, I figured I’d bring it up, as passerby editors love to try to add trivial like this.

The article notes that it’s the first album in 13 years. That’s a noteworthy fact. But then an IP keeps bloating it to:

It is the band's first album in thirteen years, since 2006's 10,000 Days, marking the longest gap between two studio albums in Tool's career;

This addition is not necessary.

  1. Its getting into trivia/trivial territory.
  2. It’s not necessary to state. The reader will generally assume this, as it would be an extremely rare for a 13 year gap to be only the second longest gap.

Please stop adding this unless there is s

WP:CONSENSUS it should be added. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 22:29, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply

I agree. Not only is this trivial but also a matter of
point of view. MetalDiablo666 (talk) 23:13, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply

Agree too. Looking for a comparison, I'll reference My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky by Swans, released after a 14-year gap. This is mentioned in the lead, and doesn't have the "...making it the longest gap..." fluff. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:59, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Track times

Hey @Sergecross73: I just noticed you removed the overall duration from the article. I agree, and just wanted to add I looked at the Apple Music listing and it appears all other songs besides the title track are listed as being exactly 3:00 in duration...Unless Tool is pulling something we don't know yet, I think it's safe to assume that's an error or placeholder info. By the way, where have the band said the album will be 80 minutes long? Ss112 02:41, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here, which is the source in the article. Either way, this is one of those things that will be resolved shortly once they announce the official track list. Sergecross73 msg me 02:48, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
"The album consists of seven main tracks of music, and a run time of 80 minutes" - that is the greatest thing I've ever read on WP. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:04, 9 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

POV

"The band toured heavily in support of the album, playing more than 200 shows through 2007"

Bands don't tour to 'support' their albums. Bands tour to earn money. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.70.198.157 (talk) 07:42, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I’m not sure I follow why you find these two ideas mutually exclusive? Sergecross73 msg me 10:16, 28 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bands make their living (trivial: money)with live performances. The albums are part of the PR for their touring. You don't make money with albums (any more). You could give them away for free. 30 years ago it was the other way round. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.70.198.157 (talk) 14:12, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I’m well aware of how the industry has changed, but that doesn’t change that 1) it’s not “either/or”, but “both” and 2) the statement in question was in regards to 2007 - 12 years ago - in regards to a platinum selling album. Sergecross73 msg me 14:38, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Review source quality

This is a major album release that is getting a lot of high level coverage. We need to be focusing on that sort of coverage over these obscure music blogs. Sergecross73 msg me 13:01, 30 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Photo of the Packaging?

What are the WP guidelines in terms of being able to upload a picture of the unboxed album packaging? Feels like it's an area that warrants an image to complement the text, if possible.

If you've taken the pic yourself, it's fine to upload (to Commons). The packaging is amazing. I want to be buried with my copy, clutching it with my cold, dead hands. Ideally years from now.... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:26, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, Wikipedia’s image policy is strict, but the packaging being such a major part of this album, I’m sure it could be reasoned to be necessary. I went digital though, so I don’t have a photo to upload. Sergecross73 msg me 17:11, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. Working on editing and loading a decent-ish shot of it now. IAmTheNeil (talk) 17:20, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Obviously if someone can do a better job than I could just with a home setup, it’s welcome. IAmTheNeil (talk) 18:03, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Nice work - thanks! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 07:27, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So apparently, marking the photo as 'Own Work' was a mistake on my part, because it's been flagged for deletion (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Fear_Inoculum_Album_Packaging.jpg). Any thoughts on how it should be submitted in order to meet the guidelines? Thanks. IAmTheNeil (talk) 19:06, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
One the subject of the packaging, has there been any criticism about it, with regards to the cost and/or availability? I see a lot of grumpy chatter on Twitter, but wondered if there was anything more substantial. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 12:29, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Not that I’ve seen. A couple websites noted that it did so well, that they’re making more of them. And Loudwire noted it was impressive that they are projected to beat Taylor Swift even with shortages and high prices, but since we don’t know the breakdown of physical/digital sales, I didn’t think it was worth noting. Sergecross73 msg me 12:39, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Thought as much - just the usual bunch of online complainers with their "wah-wah-wah I don't like the new album" posts. Yawn! Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:33, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of standard cd release?

Should it be mentioned that there is no standard release of this cd as of yet, only a special edition? Isn't this unusual and even novel? Essentially, the cd is not available in "traditional" physical form, except for collectors. Repkow (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:39, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Seconding this request. Really the article should be unprotected so that anonymous users can edit. 174.230.9.35 (talk) 14:43, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I’m indifferent to the request - it doesn’t particularly help or hurt in my opinion - so I was waiting to see if anyone else would weigh in. But the article was protected due to lots of vandalism, and while it is scheduled to expire in a couple days, it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for it to be re-applied shortly afterwards. It’s a high profile release, just after release, for a band with a rabid fanbase and a polarizing reputation. Its a perfect storm magnet for vandalism. Packaging - additional info

hej, on the picture of the packaging, there is an element on the bottom right with the "fire eye" print. What's that? CD sleeve? Also, Discogs mentions there are three differently designed versions, which differ in back cover artwork and glossyness of the material. This should be mentioned, and also the fact that some booklet pages are printed on transparent paper. A widely spread missprint also exists, wwith pages missing, mixed up and duplicate. Best regards, IP 77.13.213.101 (talk) 19:08, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, the eye part is the CD sleeve. Interesting info on the other parts. If my copy has any of those errors or variations, I hadn't noticed! IAmTheNeil (talk) 19:44, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Printing errors?! It's almost if they're doing it on purpose... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 09:33, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Portugal chart

A new editor notified me that the album topped the Portugal chart too. Didn’t have time to research, so I’m leaving this for myself or someone else to look into and add later. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 02:15, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
