Soundbite intro

In at least some versions there is a sound clip at the beginning of a man who is speaking, apparently to a group of people. Does anyone know who this is or what this is from? "... the best trained, best educated, best equipped, best prepared troops refuse to fight..."

That clip is attributed to MLK in the Tareyton article, but here it is attributed to Thomas "TNT" Todd, one (or both?) of the two articles must be wrong.

Gurren Lagann

Elvis

I believe that there was some controversy about the labelling of Elvis as "racist" in the lyrics to this song. If some supporting material could be found, would that be worth mentioning in the article? Epa101 (talk) 20:41, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tawana Brawley

" Brawley gained national notoriety in 1987 when, at the age of 15, she accused several police officers and public officials from Wappingers Falls, New York of raping her. The charge was rejected in court, and she instead was sued for supposedly fabricating her story." There is a page for Tawana Brawley's accusations. These details seem to have nothing to do with the movie. Do digressions like this really belong? (Also, the other page refers to "Wappinger, NY" and not Wappingers Falls. The latter seems consistent with the contemporary NYT articles, but this disagreement probably should be resolved.) Danchall (talk) 14:00, 1 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A quote is necessary to support this factual claim

For the moment, until a quote is sourced (not just a citation, which cannot be readily viewed on the Internet), I have removed the following statement: "... members of The Bomb Squad such as Chuck D and Hank Schocklee wanted to eschew melodic clarity and harmonic coherence in favor of a specific mood in the composition." To me, this is a major claim, as the writer is establishing, as fact, what D and Schocklee "wanted"—it is a big call to claim to know what the creators of a composition that is many years old actually "wanted." Isley Brothers song "Fight the Power (Part 1 & 2)" came first (1975) and was a far more popular song in its day, peaking at #4 in the Billboard Hot 100 in addition to #1 in the R&B chart. In contrast, the PE song peaked at #20 on the same R&B chart in '89 and did not chart at all on the Hot 100 but did reach #1 on the rap chart
.

Also, the Isley Brothers song has often been referred to without the "Part 1 & 2". The album cover of The Heat Is On contains the text "Featuring Fight the Power". A 1999 Jet magazine story refers to the song simply as "Fight the Power" [2] as does a 1976 Billboard story [3]. So there is the chance that some incoming links to Fight the Power intended for the Isley song might be incorrect.

In terms of Google results, there are 247k for "Fight the Power" "Public Enemy" vs. 50k for "Fight the Power" "Isley Brothers". However, recentism is to be avoided. However, an argument that the PE song is more notable than the Isley song that I anticipate could be that it is regarded by the American Film Institute as among the greatest movie songs of the 20th century.
