Hannele

is marked N/A; isn't that also a female form of Saint John, like the German name Hanna <- Johanna <- Johannes? --androl (talk) 15:17, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hannele is a tricky one. It's both a form of Hanna, but that is both a shortening of Johanna, and a form of
Hannah (given name), which has been also popular in Finland and Sweden. Because of that, I marked it with N/A. If you think there's a better way of expressing this etymology, feel free to edit boldly! --MPorciusCato (talk) 16:51, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply

-la suffix

I removed the bracketed part of this statement about the -la suffix because it has no cited source:

"-la, a locative suffix usually meaning "place of"[, which comes from louko, a loanword from Proto-IE "glade" (*loukoz)]"

Lauri Hakulinen discussed this suffix in Suomen Kielen Rakenne ja Kehitys (5th printing, p.129-30), stating that it was possibly diminutive in origin and mentioning nothing about any origin in louko. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gavril09 (talkcontribs) 05:34, 5 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
