Australian box office statistics (reference no. 2)

The reference no. 2 was a dead link. I have provided the current link to the box office of films in Australia. Why Footrot Flats is regarded as an Australian film is not clear. Armeisen (talk) 02:05, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Release date: April 1986 or later 1986 or April 1987?

The page states the movie was released in April 1986. The New Zealand Film Commission puts the film's date as 1986: https://www.nzfilm.co.nz/films/footrot-flats , but all Australian newspaper reviews of the time state the film was released in Australia in April 1987. Also, the accompanying song, Slice of Heaven by Dave Dobbyn, was released in New Zealand in September 1986 (and in Australia the following year). So, it seems clear the film was actually released in Australia in April 1987. When was it released in New Zealand? In late 1986? Another Dave Dobbyn song from the movie, You Oughta Be in Love, entered the NZ charts in December 1986: http://charts.org.nz/showitem.asp?interpret=Dave+Dobbyn&titel=You+Oughta+Be+In+Love&cat=s . Not around April 1986.SiberianCat (talk) 04:17, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I started the article (in 2006!) and I put 1 April 1987 in the first draft (which I guess was probably the Australian release date), then I changed it to just the year 1986. I've got an issue of Cinema Papers from May 1986 which said the film was still being produced and would be ready by Christmas (1986). The Wikipedia article also contains details of the announcement of the cast and crew in January and March 1986, so it's very unlikely the film was released just one month later. In Geoffrey Palmer's memoir he says that he attended the film's premiere in "late 1986". Anyway, I'll see what I can find with regards to both the NZ and Australian release dates, as there certainly seems to be some discrepancy. --Canley (talk) 06:50, 20 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I have found a few relevant issues of Cinema Papers online and have changed the NZ release date to December 1986, as one issue mentions a mid-December release date. I'll keep seeking a source with a precise date. SiberianCat (talk) 14:29, 21 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I found a reference in New Zealand Film 1912–1996 by Helen Martin and Sam Edwards which gave the release date as November 1986. Should be a narrow enough window to search NZ newspaper archives or microfiche to find the exact date. --Canley (talk) 09:38, 23 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. I have put in a reference to the book you mentioned. I still cannot find the precise release date. SiberianCat (talk) 03:49, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
