I thought the cannon was no longer fired at games because the UNR football coach had it sealed when UNR posessed it in the 90s. --4.246.3.1 02:48, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Nevada vs. UNR on Wikipedia
Constantly editing back and forth between Nevada and UNR in articles in a pointless and will be a never ending endeavour. Lets use this area as discussion, and might I suggest a Wikipedia moderator lock the article down until there is a decision made by the Wikipedia Staff.
The argument for "Nevada"
In athletics across the country, the school is known as Nevada, not UNR or Nevada-Reno. this is true for ESPN, FOX, CBS, and other media outlets. The only location in the country where Nevada is referred to as UNR is in the state of Nevada because of the rivalry, most of it coming from people who live in the Las Vegas area. I've opened a support request with the administrators and moderators to have a decision made to avoid this from spreading to other articles, and can be found here: Wikipedia:Editor_assistance/Requests#Articles_relating_to_college_sports_in_the_state_of_Nevada.2C_relating_to_Nevada_and_UNLV Twintop (talk) 04:21, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
For "UNR"
Sports talk isn’t the official rule maker. Nevada law states that they are to be noted by location.
Sec. 6. NRS 396.010 is hereby amended to read as follows: 396.010 1. The seat of the state university, as described in section 4 of article 11 of the constitution of the State of Nevada, is hereby located at the office of the chancellor of the University [of Nevada System. 2. The branches of the University of Nevada are the University of Nevada, Reno, and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.222.86.179 (talk) 18:52, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
- @common name used in independent media, the school is most frequently called simply "Nevada" by locals, local and national media (not just for sports, but also for academics in shorthand), and frankly byt their own advertising (90% of their own marketing for its sports teams are the Nevada Wolf Pack, not UNR Wolf Pack). As this is a sports article, the common sports name is most definitely "Nevada" right now. This also goes for other "first-in-state schools" such as the California Golden Bears (the school is almost always called Berkeley or UC Berkeley by the state government, other state schools, and by locals, but almost always just called "Cal" in the general sports media) or the Wisconsin Badgers (mostly known as UW-Madison by officials and locals). The Common Name can shift depending on current usage (such as Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns used to be more frequently known as ULL Ragin Cajuns until recently). However, there is no evidence of a media usage shift as of now (or even for the school to be pushing for one such as the ULL to Louisiana example). Yosemiter (talk) 19:03, 26 November 2018 (UTC)]

Results colors
I changed the shading colors in the game results table to match each school's official color, using the hexadecimal equivalent listed on their respective websites.
- Nevada: Silver & Blue Kit: Fonts & Colors
- UNLV: UNLV Colors
I believe these are easier to read than the previous colors. Please advise if you disagree with this change. --LJ (talk) 22:36, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
