Hachiōji the next designated city of Japan?

I was wondering in the future if Hachiōji City can become the first

designated city within Tokyo-to (alone or merged with Machida City). And if so here is a possibility that might occur for example: Tokyo City shall become Japan's first-ever prefecture-level city because its 23 special wards are in the same level as other municipalities and "Tokyo-to" converts back to "Tokyo-fu". jlog3000 (talk) 18:14, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply

So far it hasn't happened. Is it like illegal for a city within Tokyo Metropolis to have any special status? jlog3000 (talk) 12:17, 17 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of its Name?

What's the origin of the name "Hachioji"? It seems to mean "eight princes", which is a mystery, but any (well-supported) suggestion would be welcome! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.163.238.230 (talk) 01:55, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
