Coaches

Was Chris Hurley really the coach from 1968-1971? This "fact" was added by an anonymous poster on August 23, 2006. I can find no other references to Chris Hurley anywhere.

I did find one reference that suggest Al Dorrow was the coach for at least part of the time: http://argonauts.ca/Argos/History/ArgoHeroes/2004/07/27/559260.html. From the link: "1972 brought more changes to the Tiger-Cats and to Gabler’s football career. Jerry Williams replaced Al Dorrow as the head coach and brought in a young quarterback from the University of Toledo named Chuck Ealey."

This has been fixed as of December 27, 2006. Joe Restic and Al Dorrow are now listed as the coaches during that period. Good to see that fixed up! Jhayman 20:13, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Possible copyright violation

The Early Years section of this article is an almost complete word-for-word copy of the first five paragraphs of the team history printed on the Tiger-Cats official site. It needs to be heavily edited or deleted. (I'd do it myself, but football history isn't an area I have a lot of knowledge in). - Eron Talk 14:32, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it's been a week and it hasn't been edited so I think it has to be deleted. - Eron Talk 14:43, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect

The article is incorrect to state that only the Ti-Cats and Montreal Canadians have won league championships in professional sports every decade of the 20th century.

Rangers F.C of the Scottish Premier League and a number of other association football teams have managed this feat. Maybe the article should be changed to say the only Canadian teams to achieve this. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 14:55, 13 May 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

Have now changed the article accordingly. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 13:27, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If Montreal and Hamilton fail to win their cups this year, their records are as good as dead, but still you should say north american, not canadian. --74.237.54.62 (talk) 22:05, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The implication that this team was founded in 1950 is misleading, as 2 linear histories can be traced prior: for the Wildcats and for the Tigers. At least one of the pre-histories should be presented, to more accurately reflect the continuous presence of professional football in Hamilton. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.248.179.18 (talk) 05:18, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Retro uniforms?

I seem to remember there was a picture, along with the "colour and white" uniforms, that showed the retro uniform. How come that was removed? 24.141.56.32 (talk) 02:49, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The retro jerseys were a league-wide sponsored event, so every team wore them. This year, since there is no retro event, there is no guarantee of that and Hamilton has yet to wear them. If they do, I'll add them back in, otherwise the uniforms are a reflection of what they are wearing this year. The picture you're thinking of can be found in this article. Grey Cups

The article only has the Cups after the merger in Grey Cup Championships, however the league considers the history of the Tigers and the Flying Wild Cats (I'm pretty sure the Alerts as well, but not 100% sure) to be the Ti-Cats history. So the Grey Cup Championships should include the Tigers cups — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.51.215.172 (talk) 08:59, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

founding of the team

Isn't it more accurate to say the team was founded in 1869? The solid origins of the team go back to 1869 and some form of 'Tiger' and '-Cat' has always been in the team name. The only footnote I would add to the 1869 date is the 4 year suspension during WW2.

I think there's a good argument to be made for the 1869 date despite hiatuses during WW1, WW2, and now in 2020. I think the only reason why it's not like that now is because the CFL official record book does not recognise the teams history before 1950. BLAIXX 00:17, 16 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the CFL Record Book (PDF here, page 12) officially says that the club was founded "in 1950 via merger." It's a shame, it would be much better to recognize and absorb the Tigers' long history than insist on the merger of two clubs into a new franchise. Cmm3 (talk) 04:11, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
