  • Crimson 1957 Relates that A.L.L. ended up endowing the Society himself (anonymously) after he was unable to find another donor. "The result was, there being no visible source of the necessary funds, I gave it myself, in a kind of desperation, although it took nearly all I had." (though I find that last part a little hard to believe, but maybe he was from the poor side of the family, and 1.5 million was more than a lot in those days).
