Stephen Stills?

Crosby and Nash sing vocals on Words. On what track does Still appear? 68.219.102.172 (talk) 02:57, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

/* Recording */ cites

I'm guessing, but it looks like large portions of the "Recording" section were lifted from somewhere (maybe the Acoustic Guitar Magazine article). Although moderately interesting and entertaining the amount of detail here is not relevant to an encyclopedia article. Tim Drummond was walking down the street? James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt sat on a couch to record background vocals? Really?

This section needs to be condensed and whatever information that is included needs more cites for what is claimed to have happened. Any "atmosphere" needs to be removed.

-- J. Wong (talk) 21:04, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The majority of the information in the "Recording" section did indeed come from the Acoustic Guitar Magazine article. It was not "lifted" in that no language is borrowed and it is cited. Yes, Tim Drummond was found walking down the street. Yes, Taylor and Ronstadt sat on a couch to record their vocals without headphones.

As far as relevance, check any sizable article that says how a particular album was recorded (U-2 and Pink Floyd albums, for example) and you will see that this is quite condensed. I could have cited much more.

Since I am interested in music, I am quite interested in having these touches in an encyclopedia article.

As far as additional citations, do you want each statement to have its own citation and page number. That could get a bit tedious and wouldn't help much. Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 21:25, 6 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any issue with the veracity of the statements, just their relevance to an encyclopedia article. Your calling them "touches" is indicative of their lack of relevance. And yes, you have included so many details that citing the article for each would be tedious. Perhaps, a lead sentence/paragraph stating that the details in the section were found from the article. See WP:Plagiarism for ideas about how to do this.
I enjoy music too, and I did find what you wrote entertaining and yes even interesting, but the point of an encyclopedia article is not to be entertaining. I have seen other journalists cite the same information and communicate just the basic facts, which gave me the necessary information and which should be sufficient for the article. We're not journalists here writing an article for Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

I edited this section. I hope it meets with your approval. It possible still has more info than you might like, but I think if you compare it to many other articles on the recording of albums, it is quite in line with them. Thanks for your feedback.
Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 15:06, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Looks better. I still think you could do with removing some of the "color", but it's good enough for now. -- J. Wong (talk) 19:34, 7 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A man needs a maid

I'm astonished that there's not a separate page for this classic track - I see that every single one of the tracks on the Beatles' White Album has its own page - even 'Savoy Shuffle' and 'Cry Baby Cry' - so why not this song? Flarp (talk) 23:48, 4 March 2014 (UTC) This is really a minor song. A lot of Young fans don't even like it. As far as the Beatles songs, you may notice that every single song on every single album has its own page. Perhaps a bit of overkill, but this is the Beatles we're talking about. As great as Neil Young is, and I love his music, even he would agree that he is not on the same level as the Beatles.Bob Caldwell CSL (talk) 14:26, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
