Voting for mayor

I remember this vote was on a ballot recently, but does Jackson vote for it's mayor now or not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Animebop (talkcontribs) 00:58, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orthodox Jewish community

There has been some issue about whether material in the article about the Orthodox Jewish community was appropriate. This edit by User:Yubbbbaber calling it "race-baiting vandalism" or this edit by User:Canterbury Tail saying "remove ad undue weight. A scaremongering news story reference is no replacement for actual census information on it. Who is to say other religious denominations aren't also increasing."

The United States Census Bureau doesn't track religion; you won't see it on the census form completed in the next few weeks. There might be changes to other religious subgroups, but there seem to be no reliable and verifiable sources discussing those changes. In an effort to provide some added depth, I added details about the growth and impact of Orthodox Jewish community. The original piece from the Asbury Park Press is a thorough, lengthy and solidly researched piece that can hardly be called a "scaremongering news story reference". Additional sources were added from The New York Times and Asbury Park Press (and there are many more available), which provide detail on the growth of the community and the issues being faced in developing yeshivot and other communal infrastructure. You've added more info and references which makes it more than the initial story about people worried on who was buying houses, thanks for that. I wonder if it should be moved though. I don't think it's appropriate to be the first thing in the Demographics section. Maybe its own subsection at the end of the Demographics section? Canterbury Tail talk 22:38, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Canterbury Tail, I had the same thought, but where? Should this be in a history section? Where else would you put the material? Alansohn (talk) 23:52, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alansohn, Canterbury Tail - My issue is that like in all media, highlighting race or religion is only racist when you want it to be. Lakewood and Jackson pages quote Orthodox Jewish in the demographics. Do inner cities list blacks as the population? Do Muslim cities, like Dearborn, MI, list Muslim as the population? Does SLC, UT list Mormon? No. Only Jews get that special distinction. Yubbbbaber (talk) 00:38, 26 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yubbbbaber, the article for Salt Lake City covers the Mormon community in significant detail, while the article for Dearborn, Michigan states in the article's second sentence that the city "is home to the largest Muslim population in the United States." The presence (and size) of BMG in Lakewood and the growth of the Orthodox Jewish community in both Lakewood and Jackson Townships has been covered extensively in reliable and verifiable sources and is described neutrally in the article (based on these sources), just as in the articles for Salt Lake City and Dearborn. Alansohn (talk) 04:21, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Alansohn, you are right that they there, but not in the demographics section. Only for Lakewood and Jackson. At least another user just changed it to a neutral entry. I figured that mentioning the criminal investigations against the town would get someone to completely remove any specific race or religion from the article :-D and I was right. Yubbbbaber (talk) 17:50, 17 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information provided about the orthodox community is so irrelevant to history. Check out Detroit Michigan or Texas where history is history, speaks about past events dating back many years. If you are going to bring in a religious group then you must be well rounded. Then speak to a time when there was a high population of gypsies in jackson? Just because you take it from a news article doesn't make it correct. Fake news. You are not a historian. Simbathunder (talk) 05:02, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Actor90 (talk) 05:01, 24 April 2020 (UTC)Actor90 4/24/2020 Reasoning: Jackson Twp history is more than just the beginning in one paragraph and a single issue in another. Therefore, I believe the following should be added to the History section between paragraph 1 and paragraph 2. (Redacted)

This is so much more a proper, accurate depiction of history. Simbathunder (talk) 05:05, 24 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: Copying text directly from another source is a
WP:COPYPASTE for advice on this. You should use the source material to write more information about the subject, but that means starting with a blank page and writing the text yourself, not starting with the text of the source material and moving things around to make it different. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 18:31, 25 April 2020 (UTC)[reply

Potencial edit warring

I have seen in the changelogs what appears to be an editwar brewing regarding the following section:

"Orthodox Jewish community Since 2016, the Orthodox Jewish population has been growing in central and eastern Jackson Township, along the border with Lakewood Township, due to the more affordable housing and quieter lifestyle that Jackson Township offers over Lakewood.[56] By 2019, the Orthodox Jewish community had grown to an estimated 1,000 families, out of 23,000 total households, from a limited presence just a few years prior. The township, under pressure from many residents uncomfortable with this demographic change, passed multiple ordinances trying to stymie this development. A "no knock" ordinance had been passed by Jackson prohibiting door-to-door solicitation for buying homes. Ordinances were passed that were restrictive to the Orthodox Jewish lifestyle; efforts to open yeshivas in the township were blocked by ordinances that prohibited construction of dormitories, and eruvs (religious enclosures) were banned. This led to multiple lawsuits being filed against Jackson Township.[57][58] In addition, the United States Department of Justice and the New Jersey Attorney General have opened investigations into whether the township practiced anti-Semitic discrimination, filing multiple subpoenas against township officials and residents.[59][60]"

I have concerns about the tone of this section; and also that an inappropriate attempt was made by several users to "blank" the entire section while only justifying removal of certain parts of the section. I would encourage users to resolve disputes to do not qualify for speedy deletion in the talk section and not to engage in edit warring. --Willthewanderer (talk) 12:59, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I think the last few edits have been constructive towards making the language more neutral and some of the information clearer. Any proposal to drastically alter or remove this section should be discussed here first though. Ayid7891 (talk) 16:10, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
User TWEETY4557 is continuing the edit war, and is refusing to discuss their edits here. Their edits seem to at least violate
Wikipedia:DUE. This user needs to come here to explain what valid issues they think are in the article. Pinging @Ayid7891 and TWEETY4557
