Not all of these are Unique to the Mormons

Most notably, the doctrine that Jesus was involved in creation is not unique to the non-Christian group. --Walter Görlitz 18:23, 28 December 2005 (UTC) This is a good and valid point. Ergo, let us qualify "unique" with "(or at least rare)". - Das Baz, 7 January 2006. By the way, referring to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as "the non-Christian group" is absurd, bigoted, and a violation of the commandment "Thou shalt not bear false witness against they neighbor." If you disagree with the beliefs of any given Church, that is your right, but claiming that believers in Jesus Christ are not Christians is simply not conductive to productive dialogue.[reply]

Does this really need its own article?

It may be better suited incorporated into the existing article

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints --Rickscholz
01:49, 29 December 2005 (UTC) Actually, it would be more logical to include it in the article on Jesus, but that article was getting too long and too crowded, and a request was made to farm out to other shorter articles - Das Baz, 6 January (Feast of the Epiphany), 2006. The article on the Church is also already extremely long - 18 pages long - as it is. Perhaps it would not be wise to make it even longer. Das Baz, 7 January 2006.~[reply]

I think it would do well to be merged into the "religious perspectives on Jesus" article. The Jade Knight 01:11, 26 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the LDS view is sufficiently distinct from most Christian views that it would be disporportionate to put it straight into the Religious persepectives on Jesus article. There should be a brief mention and a link there. Since the article entitled 'The Living Christ' contains practicaly nothing except a great big quotation from an LDS document, it would be better to keep this article and move the Living Christ material here as a major subsection. I have removed the link to the article The Living Christ and recommended it be deleted. I have instead added an external link to the statement on the official LDS website (lds.org). Bytebear 02:19, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mormon view of Jesus

I was searching, and found this weird little article:

Mormon view of Jesus. It seems such a shame to delete (no redeeming value as it stands), and then I realized that it could fit comfortably into this article as it stands (with som work, of course). Perhaps we could expand this article and clean it up enough that it would no longer need to be merged? --Trevdna
16:14, 1 February 2006 (UTC) "Mormon View of Jesus" is redirected to "The Living Christ". "The Living Christ" could, maybe should, be merged into "Jesus in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Leaving a redirect behind, of course. - Das Baz, February 7, 2006, 2:30 PM.[reply]

I have changed the redirect of
Mormon view of Jesus to point to this article, in preperation of deleting the article The Living Christ. Please feel free to go to the talk page of that article if you have objections. Bytebear 02:19, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply

Making sense of this article

I've removed the 'clean' from the top of this article, and made it into something more intelligible as a stand-alone article. I don't think it should be simply merged with 'Religious presepective on Jesus', where I shall add a link. There didn't seem to be a huge amount of debate on the subject, so I've presumptuously taken the Merge banners off too. This could be merged with a larger discussion of Mormon theology, but my guess is that that would be too large a topic for one article. Myopic Bookworm 15:09, 8 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Format

The article has been reformatted. There is only one thing wrong with the new format and that is that it rather spoils the point of the distinction made in LDS Theology between Resurrection, Salvation and Exaltation. A way should be found to restore this important point. - Das Baz 03/20/2006, 11:01 AM.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to use the book
Jesus the Christ by James E. Talmage as a primary source for this article. It is the definitive LDS source other than scripture on the life and mission of Jesus. Bytebear 02:36, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply

I think that is a good idea. If I remember right Maxwell also wrote a decent book on the subject as well in the 80s. --Trödel 03:56, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I think Das Baz is correct; the distinctions should be brought back into focus. Talmadge's book is an excellent source and I would support using it. There would be a few reservations, but they are for very minor points. Who will go first? Storm Rider (talk) 06:51, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rename the article

I think a better name for this article is Jesus Christ (Latter-day Saints) or Jesus Christ (Mormonism). Bytebear 02:24, 31 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not like the term Mormonis because then you must include all of the sects within the Latter Day Saint movement. At times, doing so feels like the tail wagging the dog and often clouds the issue. The current name is cumbersome, but I wonder how someone would seek a title on this subject? There are several options to review. Storm Rider (talk) 06:54, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Totally agree - this article will be difficult enough with the different POV's available without introducing the POV's regarding the different denominations within Mormonism. --Trödel 14:24, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Threefold Mission

I reworded this because the term "threefold mission" in LDS Culture is strongly identified with the mission of the church. i.e. proclaim the gospel, perfect the saints, redeem the dead, and the organizational structure and teaching focus of the church is around this mission.

The mission of Christ on the other hand is what gives purpose to our lives and allows us to receive the blessings God (the Father) has for us. I don't think that his mission can be put into 3 simple categories, but I left them for now. --Trödel
