Revert.

Why did you revert the section about his alcoholism, among other things?--HisSpaceResearch 22:07, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I reckon that with enough work this could become a featured article

There's enough sources. I want to do it.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 22:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Go for it. I don't have any special sources but am always happy to help out with copyedits. Cheers, Ian Rose 22:42, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'm concentrating on King Crimson first.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 11:46, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

iCon III

According to JohnWetton.com, there will be a third iCon studio album out on 19 February, but I don't know the name of it or what tracks will be on it, so I'ma wait until there's more info released before I put it in the discography. Sposato (talk) 18:32, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Qango

I notice in passing that this article omits any mention of JW's participation in the short-lived, 1-LP group Qango (band), which see for details. 87.81.230.195 (talk) 02:56, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Me again!) Note also his reported appearance on the first Malcolm and Alwyn LP, Fool's Wisdom. 87.81.230.195 (talk) 22:12, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarized material

I am removing these statements in the intro section, because they were obviously lifted, word for word, from this website: [1]

"John Wetton is an English bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, singer and songwriter. He has been a professional musician since the late 1960s." 71.93.90.163 (talk) 14:10, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the phrase "is an English singer, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter." Given Wetton is English and is a singer, bassist, guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter, that content lacks creativity and is OK under Wikipedia:Plagiarism#What_is_not_plagiarism. Bondegezou (talk) 16:15, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt response. I tend to agree with your analysis, though I think there needs to be some citations for some of the factual statements made in the lead. I am aware that citations for statements in the lead are not always required, if subsequent sections have the same factual allegations and are cited there. However, leads do not have an automatic right to be free of any citations, especially when there are no citations in any of the rest of the article to support the factual allegations in the lead. Ultimately, to avoid POV and OR, ALL factual statements must have RS inline citations to support them. I will wait a reasonable time for RS citations to be attached to factual statements in the article, whether in the lead or elsewhere, and then if none are supplied, I will remove them on ground of POV/OR. 71.93.90.163 (talk) 18:52, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are quite right that the article lacks citations and, indeed, is generally in a poor state. I will see what I can do to improve it. Bondegezou (talk) 18:58, 8 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again, for such a quick response. My apology for putting the burden on you to do the citation work, but it would have been an almost impossible job for me, since I lack the kind of expert knowledge which you obviously possess. Always best for the real experts to supply the required cite info, in my humble opinion. Far less likely they will be later challenged, than if someone like me would attempt a task that really requires some esoteric knowledge on that subject matter. Cheers! 71.93.90.163 (talk) 14:45, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article contains some useful information, but if I find the time I'd like to expand it to a similar level to the Bill Bruford article.--HisSpaceResearch 18:56, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

January 2010?

The photo says that it is "Wetton playing live in January 2010". I am sure that the photo is much older than that, probably from the 1990s.--Theburlybush (talk) 21:46, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are probably right. It was only loaded in 2010. Perhaps User:Bondegezou can help as he loaded it and got the permission. A venue might be useful too. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:51, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Wetton's management sent me the photo and asked me to get it up. The info was from them. I'll see if I can dig out my email trail and check details. Bondegezou (talk) 10:46, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. I realise that's seven years ago, but an accurate date really does help provide context. A venue not so much, I think, unless it was a particularly notable event. I'm not sure we need to be told he was playing bass. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:31, 14 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd go further & question the need for a caption at all, & certainly remove the reference to his playing a bass, since it's not visible.

Who is John's brother?

After reading that John had an older brother who is a classical musician I stumbled upon the article for the conductor Hilary Davan Wetton. The last name is not very common and there is a difference in age of 6 years between them. So it definitely seems like there is a strong possibility that they could be closely related. The older brother is still alive. Does anyone know whether or not Hilary is John's older brother? Why has this connection never been discussed before? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.200.183 (talk) 06:31, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In a video interview with John posted on Youtube he also says that his brother is in fact six years older. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.200.183 (talk) 13:59, 26 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question now resolved. This article shows a picture John and his brother Robert, who is definitely not Hilary Davan Wetton. https://heavy.com/entertainment/2017/01/john-wetton-family-wife-mother-son-brother-lisa-peggy-dylan-robert/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.213.218 (talk) 20:23, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So "Wetton’s Brother Robert Was a Church Organist & Choirmaster" (and still was in 2017). Martinevans123 (talk) 20:34, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It would still be interesting to know what if any other family connections there might be between the musical Wettons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.172.213.218 (talk) 20:57, 3 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Main page image

Is there some reason the John Wetton page has to feature such a horrible photo of him when there are dozens of better ones to choose from? For just one example, there's the image at the top of this page: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/john-wetton-songs/.

Come on, Wikipedia, get with the program. As one of the most electrifying bass virtuosos in popular music history (paraphrasing Robert Fripp) - and a damn good songwriter too - JW deserves better than this. 2600:6C52:7800:67A4:F59D:45E1:3E87:6DB3 (talk) 05:24, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OR, what about a video screenshot of King Crimson in 1973, e.g. 1:23-1:29 here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK6mgSfkRkE.
Or for Asia fans (including me) how about this photo: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/31/arts/music/john-wetton-rocker-with-king-crimson-and-asia-dies-at-67.html
Anybody looking up JW on Wikipedia is going to be far more interested in these images than what is there currently. Make it right. 2600:6C52:7800:67A4:F59D:45E1:3E87:6DB3 (talk) 05:55, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The current image is perfectly fine, anyway; all of his facial features are clearly discernible. Martin IIIa (talk) 03:55, 6 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stint in Renaissance

This is missing from his band timeline. It was on or around 1971-72. May have been pretty short. May have been concurrent with another project such as Family. I really don't know and online sources seem scarce. Surely someone with more knowledge out there can help. :) 78.60.100.34 (talk) 18:03, 20 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
