Misc.

  • Schindel 2013a mentions debate among historians over his date of ascension and age at death. Schindel himself is not quite certain about his DOB, saying "Kawād thus probably was born in 473." At least a footnote is due here.
  • "Hephthalites" isn't a common term like Arabs, Armenians etc. Should be briefly explained and linked.

No it is fine.
  • Quotations from sources must not be altered. "The people came to Sukhra and undertook all their dealings with him, treating Kavad as a person of no..." should be presented exactly as it appears in the book, with any alterations etc. in Square brackets.
  • "Meanwhile, chaos was occurring in the country, notably in Mesopotamia." at the end of section on Kavad's deposal. What is its relevance here? Is this related to the dethronement? What were its causes?

  • " Kavad thus used the movement as a political tool in order to curb the power of the nobility and clergy." This should be expanded with a couple examples. Distributing crown's land among peasants should have had no effect on nobility.

@HistoryofIran:I meant that Kavad's allotment of his own (King's) lands to poor would have weakened him, while the nobles whom he wanted to target would have remained unaffected-it was King's land that was being distributed. So what I wanted to ask if sources discuss other measures,forcing women sharing and the like-article now says Mazdak proposed this but doesn't say anything on whether Kavad forced this on elites- on nobles, which then weakened them? I am leaving this to you though; if the sources don't mention more than this, it is fine, if they do you can add any time you want. This is now almost complete. Remaining sources issues below are not part of criteria and you can fix them whenever you want. So I will pass this when you've fixed image issues. Thanks.   • Variants exist on the year of his return from exile (498 or 499). This should be mentioned.
  • According to the cited sources, founding of Eran-asan-kerd-Kawad, Fahraj etc has been "attributed" to Kavad. This article portrays it like an established fact. Should be made a bit less absolute.
  • "By using the natural superiority of the Persian Gulf..." What does natural superiority of mean here? Strategic location? Something else?

  • "perhaps with local support; the city was in any case undefended by troops and weakly fortified." Please rephrase this.
  • "The Sasanians could now thus be viewed as adherents of Jesus and his saints, if not Christianity altogether." This is an opinion of an author and should be presented as such.
  • Section "Diplomatic relations with China" doesn't contain any concrete info on diplomatic relations and is off-topic. Should be deleted.
  • "Despite the breakdown of the negotiations, it was not until 530 that full-scale warfare on the main eastern frontier broke out." Eastern front?

  • Schindel's views are presented in the lead, but not in the article body; should be both or none.
  • Lead: "The Byzantines had originally paid the Iranians on a non-mandatory basis, in order to maintain the defense of the Caucasus against attacks from the north." Article body contains fewer details than this on the subsidies; should be expanded a little bit.
  • Please remove duplinks.

  • Martindale, John R., ed. (1980), and Martindale, John R., ed. (1992) have "missing title" error.

  • You don't need page range in full biblio (eg. in [2] (Boyce 2001), or [5] (McDonough 2013) etc.) (optional)
  • According to [11] (Daryaee, Touraj (2014)) it was Bahram who defeated the Hephthalites. Is he the same person as Yazdegerd II?

  • Several sources (eg. Potts, Daniel T. (2018).) are available with preview on google books, but have been linked to publisher sites (which have no preview). This should be addressed.
  • I couldn't find discussion of Sukhra's defeat, imprisonment and execution in Pourshariati 2008, p. 80., perhaps its on p. 81, which is not accessible in google books.
  • Gushnaspdad proposing execution of Kavad is not in cited sources (Daryaee 2014, p. 27 and Schindel 2013a)
Fixed myself.
  • "Kavad had during his flight met a peasant girl from Nishapur, named Niwandukht, who became pregnant with his child, which would later be Khosrow I." According to the cited source (Tab. v5, p. 128), this occurred before Kavad's first reign.
  • "of the family, Adergoudounbades, who agreed to lend his aid." p. in [33] (Pourshariati 2008, p. 267) should be modified.

I normally use {{PD-art-3d}}. But it requires another US tag. These files already have OTRS confirmation tags. Adding three tags seems odd to me. I am passing without them. @HistoryofIran: Are you actually going to want a c/e from the GOCE since you are fixing all of the reviewer's suggestions? Generally speaking the idea is to ask the GOCE for a c/e edit and then submit the article for GA consideration. Happy to do it if you want a c/e after the fact. Let me know.
