Yeah, I thought about it being non-Romance too, but I mean, look at the intro sentence of Lorenz: an originally German name derived from the Roman surname, Laurentius, which mean "from Laurentum". I honestly don't believe so. Every dérivent of the name traces back to the original Latin name, so I don't think the German version is particularly important enough to be mentioned. What do you think? Afro-Eurasian (talk) 04:50, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't know that much about etymology/anthroponymy, especially how to write WP articles on these topics. But my feeling is that, German, being non-Romance, is not immune from Latin at all; I can't make a good (vocabular) example, but I really don't think (modern) German, being "German" (I mean family), should be extinguished from Latin decedent. I understand what you mean. But why German specifically? Why not Catalan (Llorenç), Greek (Lavrentios/Λαυρεντιος), or even English (Laurence)? Afro-Eurasian (talk) 06:44, 5 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
