Liberty State Park is bordered to the south and east by Upper New York Bay, and not by the Hudson River. Documentation is in Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upper_New_York_Bay

Caven Point redirect

Greetings. Currently Caven Point redirects here - I noticed this in the National Docks Secondary page. Caven Point is not in LSP - it should redirect to Port Liberté, Jersey City - the entry for which does mention that it is located on Caven Point. I don't know how to make that change and can't quite figure out the instructions. I'm placing this note here and on the National DOcks page. Thanks! Jwbkmn (talk) 21:27, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Geography

The high rise buildings of the lower Jersey City skyline, as seen from Liberty State Park

Most of the park's area is on

Statue of Liberty National Monument, Ellis Island and Liberty Island that depart nearby. A 50 foot (15 m) section of track from the Lehigh Valley Railroad can be found in the park.[citation needed
]

The southern Caven Point section of the park is separated from the main part of the park by the Liberty National Golf Club and is accessible along the water's edge using the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. The long thin pier at the foot of Chapel Avenue that was once part of the park has been demolished. The Peninsula Park lies between the Big Basin of the Morris Canal and the Tidewater Basin in Paulus Hook. The Liberty Landing Marina is located on the Big Basin.[citation needed]

Liberty Industrial Park, a collection of warehouse distribution & light manufacturing facilities, lies at the southern end of the park.[citation needed]

History

Construction of the

brownfields dominated the landscape after the mid-twentieth century, though there was still some manufacturing and recreational use.[citation needed

Points of interest

Freedom Way and Liberty Walkway

A road called Freedom Way goes through the center and serves as a barrier between the area closed to the public, to its west, and the area that is open to the public, to its east. It has many bike paths, walkways, and fields.[citation needed]

The name "Liberty Walk" was already associated with Philadelphia, in publications such as a booklet The Liberty Walk Through Historic Old Philadelphia published by the American Wax Museum, Philadelphia (before 1969), which listed a walk round 23 sites of historic interest.[citation needed]
