Cleanup/expansion

I think that this list would be improved by adding a line or two of description under each character's name, similar to how is done at

Minor characters of Days of our Lives and List of General Hospital characters. Also, the ToC could be improved. Currently it seems to list A-Z, and then start over with B-Z, though I'm unclear if that's simple duplication or if there's something else going on. The long vertical ToC should probably also be replaced with the horizontal version, such as is used in the GH list. --Elonka 17:05, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply

Merge

What do folks think of the idea of merging

Minor characters of Days of our Lives into a single list? --Elonka 17:09, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply
]

I like the idea. I envision the minor character entries here as the new destinations for redirected links such as
Melanie Layton, and for more important characters with their own articles (like Sami Brady
) there can be a short identifying blurb to establish context for readers already looking at the list ("Daughter of Roman Brady and Marlene Evans and twin to Eric Brady...") with of course the names linked back to the main articles.
I also see no need for the "first name" list provided here (I believe that is actually how this list began), but we should make sure all of the entries are included as appropriate in the "last name" version. — TAnthonyTalk 17:42, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, is that why the duplication? Yes, let's definitely get rid of one or the other, there's no need to maintain both a "sorted by last name" and "sorted by first name" list. Let's standardize it with whatever is most common on the other soap "List of" pages. --Elonka 17:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the list was by first name with no performer info until just recently (9/28/08) ... I just checked and the full character lists for all of the other current U.S. soaps are last name-first name (well, except for Guiding Light, which doesn't seem to have a comprehensive list). — TAnthonyTalk 18:16, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since there's no objection, I've started to merge some stuff over. There was a lot of good information at the (now deleted) Current Days of Our Lives characters... I have a copy and can put it on a subpage if someone would like to work from it for the merge? --Elonka 19:00, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is a great idea. I would just caution those who implement the merge (and add further info later) that the information should be as basic as possible for characters with their own extensive articles. Like for
Minor characters of Days of our Lives or such) can have slightly more to establish how they fit in to the series, but as a rule it should probably not be a multi-paragraph, daily-updated plot summary. — TAnthonyTalk 19:44, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply

I've setup a temp page at User:Elonka/Dool, feel free to copy/paste anything from there that you'd like. --Elonka 19:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree to this merge, because some characters here are playing a bigger role than minor characters. All should be included in List of Days of our Lives Characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gabi Hernandez (talkcontribs) 02:22, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose I completely disagree with this idea. Some of these characters are much more than just simple character. The regular cast article, doesn't even give a brief description. No, I don't like this idea at all. Sami50421 (talk) 23:57, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I vote FOR merging. There are several "minor characters" that have been fully integrated into the plot. And this show tends to have people coming and going all the time, which clouds their status as major/minor characters. It seems easier to just list everyone on a single page, unless the purpose of this page is to lump all the minor characters here, and give all the major characters their own pages. If that's the case, then some of the formerly minor characters who have moved into the spotlight (e.g. Melanie) need to be moved from here to their own pages. Error - Link To Wrong Page

First off, my apologies if I am going about this the wrong way.

The link in the article that is attached to the character "Larry Welch" directs readers to the wrong page. If one clicks on the name link for Larry Welch, it takes you to the article that is about the real live person that is Larry Welch, not the character from Days of our Lives. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aidensdaddy2k9 (talkcontribs) 01:53, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe I fixed it, as best as I can. When users click on the Larry Welch name link, it directs them to the list of Minor Characters and directly to Larry Welch, not the real live person of Larry D. Welch it was previously directing to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aidensdaddy2k9 (talkcontribs) 22:32, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

IVAN

Hey, who played Ivan, Vivian's former henchman? Surely he deserves a mention here. He's the guy standing behind her in the photo. & what was his last name? TodKarlson (talk) 06:38, 28 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 10 September 2015

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus, so we default to the status quo title, which means a move back to

List of Days of Our Lives characters. There were reasonable arguments on both sides, but ultimately opinion was split and it was discovered that there is little consistency across Wikipedia. I'd recommend an RfC at a project level (say Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Soap Operas if it's still active) to see if we can achieve a consensus on how these types of article should be titled across all soaps. WP:CFDS. A few days later, Cebr1979 removed the words "List of" from the title. I changed it back, per naming conventions and the other articles in Category:Lists of soap opera characters by series. Without a discussion, Cebr1979 reverted the move, stating that "We don't use 'List of' anymore for these pages". I believe that if the article is a list, then it should be reflected in the title, as it already is in the article's status on the talk page. Fortdj33 (talk) 19:49, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply

This article was never "moved to
WP:CFDS
" nor did I remove the words "List of" "a few days later." I changed the name yesterday but, this page had always been named "List of..." since it was created. I'm not sure where you're getting your info from but, it's all wrong.
Ah, I see now. You're incorrectly looking at categories and mistaking them for the page name. Yes, categories (and everything else Days-related) were changed (quite some time ago, I might add) to have "our" capitalized as "Our."
As stated, we haven't used "List of" on Days-related pages for some time now (or American soap pages as a whole). See:
  • General Hospital cast members
  • General Hospital characters (2010s)
  • General Hospital characters (2015)
  • The Young and the Restless cast members
  • The Young and the Restless characters
  • The Young and the Restless storylines
  • Days of Our Lives cast members
  • Days of Our Lives producers and writers
  • Days of Our Lives characters
  • Days of Our Lives characters (1970s)
  • Days of Our Lives characters (1980s)
  • Days of Our Lives characters (1990s)
  • Days of Our Lives characters (2000s)
  • Days of Our Lives characters (2010s)
And, quite frankly, the list just goes on and on and I've grown bored. I'm not sure why you care about one page when the rest are all done the same way. Like I said, simply have a look-see around.Cebr1979 (talk) 19:59, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
And like I said, the naming convention for list-class articles, is to have "List of" in the title. I did have a "look around", and most of the articles in Category:Lists of soap opera characters by series and Category:Lists of actors by soap opera television series use the proper naming convention, including:
as well as all the other non-American soap operas that you failed to mention. It would appear that the examples you provided need to be renamed as well. Fortdj33 (talk) 20:17, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The majority of the ones you've given are outdated or from cancelled shows and non-American soap operas are handled by a different group of editors than the American ones are. I really don't think you're gonna get anywhere with this.Cebr1979 (talk) 20:53, 10 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
