Maker SPAM?

Will the person that is listing his maker group into the past maker events section please STOP? Create a separate section and put your listing there. Thanks. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.61.0.254 (talk) 17:31, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Picture?

What the hell does the picture have to do with Maker Faire, other than being a woman dressed in stupid clothes who just happened to be *at* Maker Faire? You can't even see anything of the event in the background of the picture, she's just standing in the parking lot. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.17.195.11 (talk) 17:03, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

pic unrelated, removed and replaced with something more relevant. Kaleja (talk) 21:56, 29 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name?

Why is it called Maker Faire not just Maker Fair? Anyone knows? Hopefully it wasn't just plain vanity on the organizers' side... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.172.6.98 (talk) 21:39, 19 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Somewhat of an affectation, derived from Ren Faire Andy Dingley (talk) 18:15, 25 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
An affectation combined with ignorance of spelling / poor education. Probably originating from reading the sort of fantasy books that are filled with words to which an 'e' has been appended in the naive belief that this somehow makes them medieval. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.169.36.17 (talk) 08:55, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So do you pronounce it "fairy"?--92.77.217.129 (talk) 16:16, 20 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed it would be useful to have a source on this. Initially I thought it was an hendiadys from French ("maker make"). The "obsolete feeling" has no source on Wiktionary either. --Nemo 11:21, 5 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Arduino was there

Last year, I went and I noticed that they were crazy about Arduino. Is this noteworthy?

Thanks,

Probably. There was once an interesting article on the resurgence of electronics as a hobby in the 2000s, but it was of course deleted. 8-( It's not just Maker Faire, it's
Hackspaces and Dorkbot meetings too. The Arduino has achieved a market growth that no similar device has ever achieved, or has even come close for 20-30 years. As it's cheap and easily programmed, it's also getting into schools and the hands of artists, rather than geeks, in a way that PICs or other microcontrollers hadn't managed. At least we managed to save some of the Arduino articles when they were AfD'ed recently. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:43, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply
