In several press articles, there have been claims that the pill indirectly causes male infertility. [1] Whether it is true or not, it appears slightly controversial to the degree that the assertions should either be refuted or confirmed based on their scientific validity or consequent political relevance. The source for the 7% prevalence did not determine the value, merely included it in background information. Given there is a very strong age dependency, and difficulty defining which partner is infertile in monogamous couples (virtually all study populations), an unqualified ballpark is in my view inappropriate. I'm between institutions at the moment so do not have good journal access and so cannot check what the actual value range or population dependence is.
